This new discipline draws on psychoanalysis, medicine and the neurosciences, rather than solely on psychoanalysis, which has inspired all the psychosomatic approaches until now. Amongst the fascinating and compelling questions that this book raises are: how can we understand an illness if we only analyse the psyche? How can we understand patients if we only take account of their biological data? Are hypochondriac problems generated by the mind, as some doctors believe, or are the problems in fact more complex? The author also considers whether traditional psychoanalysis and medicine might actually distance practitioners from an understanding of patients and illnesses. For integrative psychosomatics, the psyche or the mind can play either a greater or lesser role in illness: advances in research in the neurosciences and biology over the last twenty years have uncovered many biological and genetic processes involved in the relations between the central nervous system and the other systems that constitute the human psychosomatic entity. 606 $aPsychic trauma 606 $aStress (Psychology) 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPsychic trauma. 615 0$aStress (Psychology) 676 $a155.935 700 $aStora$b Jean Benjamin$f1934-$0604278 702 $aLeighton$b Sophie 801 0$bOCoLC-P 801 1$bOCoLC-P 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910460713903321 996 $aA new body-mind approach$92218588 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02788nam 22005533u 450 001 9910144273703321 005 20210111222217.0 010 $a0-470-14120-4 035 $a(CKB)1000000000376696 035 $a(EBL)455851 035 $a(OCoLC)554944277 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC455851 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000376696 100 $a20131014d2009|||| u|| | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 200 10$aAdvances in Chemical Physics$b[electronic resource] $eProteins: A Theoretical Perspective of Dynamics, Structure, and Thermodynamics 210 $aHoboken $cWiley$d2009 215 $a1 online resource (278 p.) 225 1 $aAdvances in chemical physics ;$vv.148 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-471-52977-X 327 $aPROTEINS: A THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE OF DYNAMICS, STRUCTURE, AND THERMODYNAMICS; CONTENTS; I. Topics include dynamical simulation methods, the biological role of atom fluctuations, protein folding, influences on protein dynamics, and a variety of analytical techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, photodissociation and rebinding kinetics.
