This book fills the gap in emergency management education, namely the issue of events so large and complex that normal disaster preparedness and response strategies are vastly insufficient. It introduces the many political, legal, and programmatic issues that influence how governments plan for and respond to a catastrophe. The text provides a solid understanding of basics catastrophic planning and response, including its historical development, elements, structures, and functions. 606 $aEmergency management 606 $aEmergency management$zUnited States 606 $aPreparedness 606 $aDisasters 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEmergency management. 615 0$aEmergency management 615 0$aPreparedness. 615 0$aDisasters. 676 $a363.34 700 $aOliver$b Clifford$0889981 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910459476303321 996 $aCatastrophic disaster planning and response$91988409 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04344nam 22007455 450 001 9910299472103321 005 20200707013422.0 010 $a9783319025179 010 $a3319025171 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-02517-9 035 $a(CKB)3710000000057913 035 $a(EBL)1593071 035 $a(OCoLC)865004319 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001049271 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11992809 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001049271 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11018858 035 $a(PQKB)11175744 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-02517-9 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1593071 035 $a(PPN)176106227 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000057913 100 $a20131030d2014 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe Development of a 2D Ultrasonic Array Inspection for Single Crystal Turbine Blades /$fby Christopher Lane 205 $a1st ed. 2014. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2014. 215 $a1 online resource (141 p.) 225 1 $aSpringer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,$x2190-5053 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9783319025162 311 08$a3319025163 327 $aIntroduction -- Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Media -- Imaging Anisotropic Components with Ultrasonic Arrays -- Crystallographic Orientation using Ultrasonic Arrays -- The Development of an In Situ Ultrasonic Array Inspection System -- The Assessment of the Developed Inspection Capability -- Conclusion. 330 $aThis thesis describes the development of a new technique to solve an important industrial inspection requirement for a high-value jet-engine component. The work ? and the story told in the thesis ? stretches all the way from the fundamentals of wave propagation in anisotropic material and ultrasonic array imaging through to device production and site trials. The book includes a description of a new method to determine crystallographic orientation from 2D ultrasonic array data. Another new method is described that enables volumetric images of an anisotropic material to be generated from 2D ultrasonic array data, based on measured crystallographic orientation. After extensive modeling, a suitable 2D array and deployment fixtures were manufactured and tested on in situ turbine blades in real engines. The final site trial indicated an order of magnitude improvement over the best existing technique in the detectability of a certain type of root cracking. The Development of a 2D Ultrasonic Array Inspection for Single Crystal Turbine Blades should be an inspiration for those starting out on doctoral degrees as it shows the complete development cycle from basic science to industrial usage. 410 0$aSpringer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,$x2190-5053 606 $aAerospace engineering 606 $aAstronautics 606 $aMechanics 606 $aMechanics, Applied 606 $aMaterials science 606 $aApplication software 606 $aAerospace Technology and Astronautics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T17050 606 $aSolid Mechanics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T15010 606 $aCharacterization and Evaluation of Materials$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/Z17000 606 $aComputer Appl. in Social and Behavioral Sciences$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I23028 615 0$aAerospace engineering. 615 0$aAstronautics. 615 0$aMechanics. 615 0$aMechanics, Applied. 615 0$aMaterials science. 615 0$aApplication software. 615 14$aAerospace Technology and Astronautics. 615 24$aSolid Mechanics. 615 24$aCharacterization and Evaluation of Materials. 615 24$aComputer Appl. in Social and Behavioral Sciences. 676 $a620.11274 700 $aLane$b Christopher$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0691880 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299472103321 996 $aThe Development of a 2D Ultrasonic Array Inspection for Single Crystal Turbine Blades$91945047 997 $aUNINA
