But although there are a large number of articles and scattered comments on individual names, the present book offers the first systematic study on the subject. It is, as far as possible, an exhaustive discussion of significant proper names that appear in Aristophanes' eleven extant plays: personal names (which occupy the largest part), theonyms, place-names, ethnics and demotics - all names that seem to be deliberately used for their meanings. Two appendixes discuss slave-names and selected names from Aristophanes' fragmentary plays. Names are carefully analysed in their context, taking into account a range of factors such as language (etymology and word-plays), the content of the plays (the plots, set against their political and social background), and issues of characterisation. This work is thus meant to contribute simultaneously to Aristophanic scholarship, by enabling a deeper appreciation of Aristophanes?' humour, and to the field of Greek literary onomastics. 410 0$aSozomena 606 $aGreek drama (Comedy)$xHistory and criticism 606 $aNames in literature 606 $aNames, Greek 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aGreek drama (Comedy)$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aNames in literature. 615 0$aNames, Greek. 676 $a882/.01 700 $aKanavou$b Nikoletta$f1977-$01021006 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910459077403321 996 $aAristophanes' comedy of names$92485351 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01537nam 2200421Ia 450 001 9910699529803321 005 20230902161650.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002403630 035 $a(OCoLC)682913744 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002403630 100 $a20101123d2010 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aDynamic pressure testing of a 155-mm howitzer ballistic window using a closed bomb vessel$b[electronic resource] /$fJohn J.
