De rerum natura and regard them as non-Epicurean, accessory features. This study of Lucretius? rhetorical procedures is based on a wider understanding of the term rhetoric, not limited to the genre of oratory. In a fresh discussion of the questions of provenance and the role of the most important formal procedures of exposition in De rerum natura the author argues that instead of injecting rhetorical strategies from non-Epicurean sources, Lucretius in fact intensified rhetorical elements already present in the work of Epicurus. These elements are used for the purpose of explanation, and function as cognitive and mnemonic aids for the reader. 410 0$aMnemosyne, bibliotheca classica Batava.$pSupplementum ;$v294. 606 $aRhetoric, Ancient$xHistory and criticism 606 $aDidactic poetry, Latin$xHistory and criticism 606 $aPhilosophy, Ancient, in literature 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aRhetoric, Ancient$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aDidactic poetry, Latin$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aPhilosophy, Ancient, in literature. 676 $a871/.01 700 $aMarkovic?$b Daniel$0698530 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910458954903321 996 $aRhetoric of explanation in Lucretius' De rerum natura$91372618 997 $aUNINA
