Although modeled on the famous Gold Museum in Colombia's central bank, the Banco de la República, Taussig's museum is also a parody aimed at the museum's failure to acknowledge the African slaves who mined the country's wealth for almost four hundred years. Combining natural history with political history in a filmic, montage style, Taussig deploys the show-and-tell modality of a museum to engage with the inner life of heat, rain, stone, and swamp, no less than with the life of gold and cocaine. This effort to find a poetry of words becoming things is brought to a head by the explosive qualities of those sublime fetishes of evil beauty, gold and cocaine. At its core, Taussig's museum is about the lure of forbidden things, charged substances that transgress moral codes, the distinctions we use to make sense of the world, and above all the conventional way we write stories. 606 $aIndians of South America$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca)$xSocial conditions 606 $aIndians of South America$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca)$xEconomic conditions 606 $aIndians, Treatment of$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca) 606 $aSlavery$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca)$xHistory 606 $aGold mines and mining$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca) 606 $aCocaine industry$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca) 606 $aDrug traffic$zColombia$zSanta Mari?a (Cauca) 607 $aSanta Mari?a (Cauca, Colombia)$xSocial conditions 607 $aSanta Mari?a (Cauca, Colombia)$xEconomic conditions 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aIndians of South America$xSocial conditions. 615 0$aIndians of South America$xEconomic conditions. 615 0$aIndians, Treatment of 615 0$aSlavery$xHistory. 615 0$aGold mines and mining 615 0$aCocaine industry 615 0$aDrug traffic 676 $a986.1/53 700 $aTaussig$b Michael T$0101224 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457977903321 996 $aMy cocaine museum$92122913 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02089oam 2200517zu 450 001 9910376169203321 005 20210807002157.0 035 $a(CKB)3170000000003498 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001138394 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11627897 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001138394 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11131765 035 $a(PQKB)11252508 035 $a(WaSeSS)IndRDA00016081 035 $a(PPN)134346769 035 $a(Association for Computing Machinery)10.1145/1378889 035 $a(EXLCZ)993170000000003498 100 $a20160829d2008 uy 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aJCDL '08 : proceedings of the 2008 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries : Pittsburgh, PA, USA, June 16-20, 2008 210 31$a[Place of publication not identified]$cACM$d2008 215 $a1 online resource (478 pages) 225 1 $aACM Conferences 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a1-59593-998-9 410 0$aACM Conferences 517 1 $aJoint Conference on Digital Libraries '08 :$eproceedings of the 2008 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries : Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, June 16-20, 2008 517 1 $aProceedings of the 8th ACM/IEEE-CS Joint Conference on Digital Libraries 517 1 $aJCDL '08 517 1 $aJoint Conference on Digital Libraries, Pittsburgh, PA, USA - June 16 - 20, 2008 606 $aSocial Sciences$2HILCC 606 $aLibrary & Information Science$2HILCC 615 7$aSocial Sciences 615 7$aLibrary & Information Science 700 $aLarsen$b Ronald$012292 712 02$aAssociation for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval, 712 02$aAssociation for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Hypertext, Hypermedia and Web, 801 0$bPQKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910376169203321 996 $aJCDL '08 : proceedings of the 2008 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries : Pittsburgh, PA, USA, June 16-20, 2008$92008922 997 $aUNINA
