In vivid, raw, documentary style, he describes his experiences in the Lwow Ghetto, in the Janowska Concentration Camp, and in an underground bunker where he and twenty-three other Jews were hidden by a courageous Polish farmer and his family. The book includes a chapter written by Kazimierz Kalwinski, who as a teenager was a caretaker for the hidden Jews on his family's farm. Edmund's daughter, Renata Kessler, coordinated the book and has written an epilogue about her search for the story, which has taken her to Israel, Poland, and Lviv, Ukraine. Renowned scholar Antony Polonsky contributes an insightful historical overview of the times in which the book takes place. This volume is a tremendous resource for historians, scholars, and those interested in the Holocaust. 410 0$aJews of Poland. 606 $aJews$zUkraine$zL?viv$vDiaries 606 $aJews$zPoland$vDiaries 606 $aHolocaust, Jewish (1939-1945)$zUkraine$zL?viv$vPersonal narratives 606 $aHolocaust, Jewish (1939-1945)$zPoland$vPersonal narratives 606 $aJewish ghettos$zUkraine$zL?viv$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aJews$xPersecutions$zUkraine$zL?viv$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aBunkers (Fortification)$zUkraine$zL?viv Region$xHistory$y20th century 607 $aL?viv (Ukraine)$vBiography 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aJews 615 0$aJews 615 0$aHolocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) 615 0$aHolocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) 615 0$aJewish ghettos$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xPersecutions$xHistory 615 0$aBunkers (Fortification)$xHistory 676 $a940.53/15092 676 $aB 700 $aKessler$b Edmund$fd. 1985.$01028223 701 2$aKalwinski$b Kaziemierz$01028224 701 2$aSicher$b Lusia$01028225 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457858803321 996 $aThe wartime diary of Edmund Kessler$92444141 997 $aUNINA
