This is because the ideal of impartial egalitarianism, which is central to the cosmopolitan view, seems to be directly opposed to the moral partiality inherent to nationalism and patriotism. In this book, Kok-Chor Tan argues that cosmopolitan justice, properly understood, can accommodate and appreciate nationalist and patriotic commitments, setting limits for these commitments without denying their moral significance. This book offers a defense of cosmopolitan justice against the charge that it denies the values that ordinarily matter to people, and a defence of nationalism and patriotism against the charge that these morally partial ideals are fundamentally inconsistent with the obligations of global justice. Accessible and persuasive, this book will have broad appeal to political theorists and moral philosophers. 410 0$aContemporary political theory. 606 $aJustice 606 $aCosmopolitanism 606 $aNationalism 615 0$aJustice. 615 0$aCosmopolitanism. 615 0$aNationalism. 676 $a172/.2 700 $aTan$b Kok-Chor$f1964-$0939963 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457708703321 996 $aJustice without borders$92483314 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01219nam 2200325Ia 450 001 996392630803316 005 20221108051334.0 035 $a(CKB)3810000000004147 035 $a(EEBO)2248511540 035 $a(OCoLC)09366647 035 $a(EXLCZ)993810000000004147 100 $a19830331d1641 uy | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|bb| 200 12$aA treatise of the affections, or, The soules pulse$b[electronic resource] $ewhereby a Christian may know whether he be living or dying : together with a lively description of their nature, signes, and symptomes : as also directing men to the right use and ordering of them /$fby William Fenner 210 $aLondon $cPrinted by E.G. for I.
