It is the first book to address the age factor in SLA from a social perspective. Based on research carried out at a public university in Mexico, it investigates how adults of different ages experience learning a new language and how they enact their age identities as language learners. By approaching the topic from a social constructionist perspective and in light of recent work in sociolinguistics and cultural studies, it broadens the current second language acquisition focus on age as a fixed biological or chronological variable to encompass its social dimensions. What emerges is a more complex and nuanced understanding of age as it intersects with language learning in a way that links it fundamentally to other social phenomena, such as gender, ethnicity and social class. 410 0$aSecond Language Acquisition 606 $aLanguage and culture 606 $aLanguage and languages -- Age differences 606 $aSecond language acquisition 606 $aSociolinguistics 606 $aSecond language acquisition$xAge differences 606 $aLanguage and languages 606 $aSociolinguistics 606 $aLanguage and culture 606 $aLanguages & Literatures$2HILCC 606 $aPhilology & Linguistics$2HILCC 608 $aElectronic books. 615 4$aLanguage and culture. 615 4$aLanguage and languages -- Age differences. 615 4$aSecond language acquisition. 615 4$aSociolinguistics. 615 0$aSecond language acquisition$xAge differences 615 0$aLanguage and languages 615 0$aSociolinguistics 615 0$aLanguage and culture 615 7$aLanguages & Literatures 615 7$aPhilology & Linguistics 676 $a401/.93 700 $aAndrew$b Patricia, $4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01037067 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457652403321 996 $aTheSocial Construction of Age$92457769 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01104nam0 22003131i 450 001 VAN00018303 005 20250303095353.700 010 $a88-435-4728-3 100 $a20040622d1993 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| ||||| 181 $ai$b e 182 $an 183 $anc 200 1 $aLonghi$fsaggio di Giandomenico Romanelli 210 $aMilano$cElecta$d1993 215 $a63 p.$cill.$d23 cm 410 1$1001VAN00017243$12001 $aPockets Electa$1210 $aMilano$cElecta$d1992- 620 $dMilano$3VANL000284 700 1$aLonghi$bPietro$3VANV014327$0210228 702 1$aRomanelli$bGiandomenico$3VANV014326 712 $aElecta $3VANV113606$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20251114$gRICA 899 $aBIBLIOTECA DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI ARCHITETTURA E DISEGNO INDUSTRIALE$1IT-CE0107$2VAN01 912 $aVAN00018303 950 $aBIBLIOTECA DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI ARCHITETTURA E DISEGNO INDUSTRIALE$d01PREST IAb10(19) $e01 478 19 20051006 996 $aLonghi$91429004 997 $aUNICAMPANIA
