Often available in periodicals, lynching plays were read aloud or acted out by black church members, schoolchildren, and families. Koritha Mitchell shows that African Americans performed and read the scripts in community settings to certify to each other that lynching victims were not the isolated brutes that dominant discourses made them out to be. Instead, the play scripts often described victims as honourable heads of households being torn from model domestic units by white violence. 410 0$aNew Black studies. 606 $aAmerican drama$xAfrican American authors$xHistory and criticism 606 $aAmerican drama$y20th century$xHistory and criticism 606 $aAmerican drama$y19th century$xHistory and criticism 606 $aOne-act plays, American$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLynching in literature 606 $aAfrican Americans in literature 606 $aViolence in literature 606 $aCitizenship in literature 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aAmerican drama$xAfrican American authors$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aAmerican drama$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aAmerican drama$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aOne-act plays, American$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLynching in literature. 615 0$aAfrican Americans in literature. 615 0$aViolence in literature. 615 0$aCitizenship in literature. 676 $a812/.509896073 700 $aMitchell$b Koritha$0996705 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457633703321 996 $aLiving with lynching$92285280 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05584nam 2200697 450 001 9910830781003321 005 20230213211811.0 010 $a1-282-13847-2 010 $a9786612138478 010 $a1-4443-0371-6 010 $a1-4443-0372-4 035 $a(CKB)1000000000754332 035 $a(EBL)427987 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000309076 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11240007 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000309076 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10260792 035 $a(PQKB)11435195 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC427987 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5292191 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5292191 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL213847 035 $a(OCoLC)352790085 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000754332 100 $a20160804h19791979 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe seaward margin of Belize barrier and atoll reefs $emorphology, sedimentology, organism distribution, and late quaternary history /$fNoel P.
