Conclusion -- Bibliography -- Index 330 8 $aIn recent years there has been increased interest in three contemporary French philosophers, all former students of Louis Althusser and each now an influential thinker in his own right. Alain Badiou is one of the most important living continental thinkers, well-known for his pioneering theory of the Event. Etienne Balibar has forged new approaches to democracy, citizenship and what he describes as 'equaliberty'. Jacques Rancie?re has crossed boundaries between history, politics and aesthetics and his work is beginning to receive the attention it deserves. Nick Hewlett brings these three thinkers together, examining the political aspects of their work. He argues that in each of their systems there are useful and insightful elements that make real contributions to the understanding of the modern history of politics and to the understanding of contemporary politics. But he also identifies and explores problems in each of Badiou, Balibar and Rancie?re's work, arguing that none offers a wholly convincing approach. This is a must-have for students of contemporary continental philosophy 410 0$aContinuum studies in Continental philosophy. 606 $aPolitical science$xPhilosophy 606 $2Social & political philosophy 606 $aDemocracy 606 $aEquality 607 $aFrance$xIntellectual life$y20th century 615 0$aPolitical science$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aDemocracy. 615 0$aEquality. 676 $a320.092/244 700 $aHewlett$b Nick$0594045 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 801 2$bUkLoBP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457149303321 996 $aBadiou, Balibar, Ranciere$92042435 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03746nam 22007335 450 001 996210510103316 005 20200703140525.0 010 $a3-662-45472-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-662-45472-5 035 $a(CKB)3710000000306308 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001386488 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11896983 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001386488 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11368934 035 $a(PQKB)10855908 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-662-45472-5 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6283337 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5585201 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5585201 035 $a(OCoLC)897802892 035 $a(PPN)183094549 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000306308 100 $a20141108d2014 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aFinancial Cryptography and Data Security$b[electronic resource] $e18th International Conference, FC 2014, Christ Church, Barbados, March 3-7, 2014, Revised Selected Papers /$fedited by Nicolas Christin, Reihaneh Safavi-Naini 205 $a1st ed. 2014. 210 1$aBerlin, Heidelberg :$cSpringer Berlin Heidelberg :$cImprint: Springer,$d2014. 215 $a1 online resource (XI, 506 p. 92 illus.) 225 1 $aSecurity and Cryptology ;$v8437 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a3-662-45471-8 327 $aPayment Systems -- Case Studies -- Cloud and Virtualization -- Elliptic Curve Cryptography -- Privacy-Preserving Systems -- Authentication and Visual Encryption -- Network Security -- Mobile System Security -- Incentives, Game Theory and Risk -- Bitcoin Anonymity. 330 $aThis book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Financial Cryptography and Data Security (FC 2014), held in Christ Church, Barbados, in March 2014.
