How are evangelical Christians persuading young people to wait until marriage? Christine J. Gardner looks closely at the language of the chastity movement and discovers a savvy campaign that uses sex to "sell" abstinence. Drawing from interviews with evangelical leaders and teenagers, she examines the strategy to shift from a negative "just say no" approach to a positive one: "just say yes" to great sex within marriage. Making Chastity Sexy sheds new light on an abstinence campaign that has successfully recast a traditionally feminist idea-"my body, my choice"-into a powerful message, but one that Gardner suggests may ultimately reduce evangelicalism's transformative power. Focusing on the United States, her study also includes a comparative dimension by examining the export of this evangelical agenda to sub-Saharan Africa. 606 $aSex instruction for teenagers - Religious aspects - Christianity 606 $aSex instruction for teenagers -- Religious aspects -- Christianity 606 $aSexual abstinence - Religious aspects - Christianity 606 $aSexual abstinence -- Religious aspects -- Christianity 606 $aSexual abstinence - Study and teaching - United States 606 $aSexual abstinence -- Study and teaching -- United States 606 $aTeenagers - Sexual behavior - United States 606 $aTeenagers -- Sexual behavior -- United States 606 $aSexual abstinence$xChristianity$xReligious aspects$zUnited States 606 $aSexual abstinence$xStudy and teaching$zUnited States 606 $aTeenagers$xSexual behavior 606 $aSex instruction for teenagers$xReligious aspects$xChristianity 606 $aGender & Ethnic Studies$2HILCC 606 $aSocial Sciences$2HILCC 606 $aGender Studies & Sexuality$2HILCC 608 $aElectronic books. 615 4$aSex instruction for teenagers - Religious aspects - Christianity. 615 4$aSex instruction for teenagers -- Religious aspects -- Christianity. 615 4$aSexual abstinence - Religious aspects - Christianity. 615 4$aSexual abstinence -- Religious aspects -- Christianity. 615 4$aSexual abstinence - Study and teaching - United States. 615 4$aSexual abstinence -- Study and teaching -- United States. 615 4$aTeenagers - Sexual behavior - United States. 615 4$aTeenagers -- Sexual behavior -- United States. 615 0$aSexual abstinence$xChristianity$xReligious aspects 615 0$aSexual abstinence$xStudy and teaching 615 0$aTeenagers$xSexual behavior 615 0$aSex instruction for teenagers$xReligious aspects$xChristianity 615 7$aGender & Ethnic Studies 615 7$aSocial Sciences 615 7$aGender Studies & Sexuality 676 $a261.8/35708350973 700 $aGardner$b Christine J., $4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01008247 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456779803321 996 $aMaking Chastity Sexy$92325128 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03038nam 22006493u 450 001 9910165002403321 005 20230803015232.0 010 $a9782511002513 010 $a2511002515 035 $a(CKB)3790000000024896 035 $a(EBL)2088889 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC2088889 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL2088889 035 $a(OCoLC)884907891 035 $a(Perlego)3578123 035 $a(EXLCZ)993790000000024896 100 $a20150720d2013|||| u|| | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aSummary of The Secret Man 210 $aCork $cPrimento Digital$d2013 215 $a1 online resource (20 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9782512006008 311 08$a251200600X 327 $aTitle page; Book Presentation; Book Abstract; About the Author; Important Note About This Ebook; Summary of The Secret Man (Bob Woodward with contributions from Carl Bernstein); Chance Beginnings; Number Two at an Embattled Bureau; Watergate Breaks Open; Secret Meetings; Resignations; Post-Watergate; The Secret Remains, A Journalist's Standard; Reunion and Dilemmas; A Reporter's Assessment; Buy the Book; About the Summary Publisher; Copyright 330 $a This ebook consists of a summary of the ideas, viewpoints and facts presented by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in his book "The Secret Man: The Story of Watergate's Deep Throat".
