Traditional Mayo knowledge is quickly being lost as this culture becomes absorbed into modern Mexico. Moreover, as big agriculture spreads into the region, the natural biodiversity of these lands is also rapidly disappearing. This engaging and accessible ethnobotany, based on hundreds of interviews with the Mayos and illustrated with the authors' strikingly beautiful photographs, helps preserve our knowledge of both an indigenous culture and an endangered environment. This book contains a comprehensive description of northwest Mexico's tropical deciduous forests and thornscrub on the traditional Mayo lands reaching from the Sea of Cortés to the foothills of the Sierra Madre. The first half of the book is a highly readable account of the climate, geology, and vegetation of the region. The authors also provide a valuable history of the people, their language, culture, festival traditions, and plant use. The second half of the book is an annotated list of plants presenting the authors' detailed findings on plant use in Mayo culture. 606 $aMayo Indians$xEthnobotany 606 $aEthnobotany$zMexico$zSonora (State) 606 $aEthnobotany$zMexico$zSinaloa (State) 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMayo Indians$xEthnobotany. 615 0$aEthnobotany 615 0$aEthnobotany 676 $a581.6/0972/17 700 $aYetman$b David$f1941-$0898821 701 $aVan Devender$b Thomas R$01046540 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910455659203321 996 $aMayo ethnobotany$92473519 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03088nam 2200613 450 001 9910462497403321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a3-03813-425-2 035 $a(CKB)2670000000230051 035 $a(EBL)1872475 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000781365 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12324300 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000781365 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10807305 035 $a(PQKB)10715179 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1872475 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1872475 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10828915 035 $a(OCoLC)897640526 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000230051 100 $a20120228h20102010 uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aAdvances in silicate ceramics $e12th International Ceramics Congress.
