Although policy implementation is generally seen as an administrative problem, James Spillane reminds us that it is also a psychological problem. After intensively studying several school districts' responses to new statewide science and math teaching policies in the early 1990's, Spillane argues that administrators and teachers are inclined to assimilate new policies into current practices. As new programs are communicated through administrative levels, the understanding of them becomes increasingly distorted, no matter how sincerely the new ideas are endorsed. Such patterns of well-intentioned misunderstanding highlight the need for systematic training and continuing support for the local administrators and teachers who are entrusted with carrying out large-scale educational change, classroom by classroom. 606 $aEducation and state$zUnited States 606 $aEducation$xStandards$zUnited States 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEducation and state 615 0$aEducation$xStandards 676 $a379.73 700 $aSpillane$b James P$0983588 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910455138303321 996 $aStandards deviation$92471349 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01987nam 2200505 450 001 9910163924503321 005 20200707121045.0 010 $a0-19-756919-6 010 $a0-19-025926-4 010 $a0-19-025925-6 035 $a(CKB)3710000001055891 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4811885 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0002355184 035 $a(PPN)263115801 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000001055891 100 $a20201002e20202017 uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe global pain crisis $ewhat everyone needs to know /$fJudy Foreman$b[electronic resource] 210 1$aNew York :$cOxford University Press,$d2020. 215 $a1 online resource (401 pages) $cillustrations 225 1 $aWhat everyone needs to know 300 $aPreviously issued in print: 2017. 311 $a0-19-025924-8 311 $a0-19-025923-X 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 330 8 $aIn 'The Global Pain Crisis', renowned health journalist Judy Foreman addresses the most important questions about chronic pain: what is it, who does it affect most, what works and what doesn't for pain relief in Western and alternative medicines, what are the risks and benefits for opioids and marijuana, and how can the chronic pain crisis be resolved for good?
