Besondere Aufmerksamkeit kommt dabei der sprachlichen Integration englischstämmiger Lexik auf der Ebene der Graphie, der Flexion und der Wortbildung zu. Darüber hinaus unternimmt die Arbeit den Versuch einer Abgrenzung mehrerer Regionalvarietäten, beschreibt die areale Differenzierung der Anglizismen und untersucht den Einfluss präskriptiver Schriften auf ihren Gebrauch in der Presse. Sie wird ergänzt durch ein allgemeines, ein thematisch und ein geographisch geordnetes Anglizismenverzeichnis, eine Übersicht homonymer Anglizismen sowie zahlreiche Sprachkarten. Die Untersuchungsergebnisse geben Anlass zu einer Revidierung landläufiger Annahmen über die Beschaffenheit des hispanoamerikanischen Anglizismenwortschatzes, etwa der Vorstellung eines mit wachsender Distanz zu den USA abnehmenden Anglizismenaufkommens oder einer ?Invasion" durch Anglizismen. Focusing on the experiences of mineworkers in the Copperbelt region, James Ferguson traces the failure of standard narratives of urbanization and social change to make sense of the Copperbelt's recent history.
