A highly interesting aspect of its transmission and reception are its many redactions which bear witness to the continuous development of the text in line with changing historical contexts. This study presents the very first classification of such rewritings, and produces new insights into historiographical discourse in the Middle Ages. Drawing on an analysis of the paraphrase contained in the manuscript Bamberg Hist. 3, which is edited here for the first time, the author offers numerous examples of textual transformations of language, style and ideology, all of which give us a clearer picture of textual fluidity in medieval historiography. 410 0$aMittellateinische Studien und Texte ;$vBd. 36. 606 $aManuscripts, Latin (Medieval and modern)$zGermany$zBamberg 606 $aLatin literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLiterature, Medieval$xHistory and criticism 606 $aHistoriography$xMethodology 607 $aRome$xForeign public opinion$xHistory$vSources 607 $aRome$xHistoriography$vSources 607 $aRome$xHistory$xEarly works to 1800$vSources 607 $aBamberg (Germany)$xHistory$vSources 607 $aGermany$xHistory$yTo 843$vSources 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aManuscripts, Latin (Medieval and modern) 615 0$aLatin literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLiterature, Medieval$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aHistoriography$xMethodology. 676 $a937/.606072 700 $aKretschmer$b Marek Thue$0996110 701 $aPaul$cthe Deacon,$fca. 720-799?$0254652 712 02$aStaatsbibliothek Bamberg.$dMsc. hist. 3. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453721703321 996 $aRewriting Roman history in the Middle Ages$92282754 997 $aUNINA
