Looking at the dramatic transformations of the era-changes in the family and in the law, the emergence of the world's first police force, the growth of a national media, and more-Charles Upchurch asks how perceptions of same-sex desire changed between men, in families, and in the larger society. To illuminate these questions, he mines a rich trove of previously unexamined sources, including hundreds of articles pertaining to sex between men that appeared in mainstream newspapers. The first book to relate this topic to broader economic, social, and political changes in the early nineteenth century, Before Wilde sheds new light on the central question of how and when sex acts became identities. 606 $aGay men$zGreat Britain$xHistory 606 $aGay men$zGreat Britain$xSocial conditions 606 $aMen$xSexual behavior$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aHomosexuality$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aSex$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xSocial conditions$y19th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aGay men$xHistory. 615 0$aGay men$xSocial conditions. 615 0$aMen$xSexual behavior$xHistory 615 0$aHomosexuality$xHistory 615 0$aSex$xHistory 676 $a306.76/62094109034 700 $aUpchurch$b Charles$f1969-$01045872 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453542503321 996 $aBefore Wilde$92472457 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02943nam 2200553 450 001 996511869403316 005 20230729144157.0 010 $a3-031-24337-4 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-24337-0 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7206928 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7206928 035 $a(CKB)26183522500041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-24337-0 035 $a(PPN)268204411 035 $a(EXLCZ)9926183522500041 100 $a20230729d2023 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aComputational Linguistics and Intelligent Text Processing$hPart I $e20th International Conference, CICLing 2019, la Rochelle, France, April 7-13, 2019, Revised Selected Papers. This collection draws together a wealth of international experience to explore the emerging patterns of strategy and practice in internationalizing Higher Education. Questions considered include: * How is the concept of globalization in the context of higher education understood by those who lead universities across the world? * What new challenges are being created as universities seek to become more international? * Which forms of leadership are needed and will be needed in the future in these transforming institutions and how are they going about preparing for and achieving this?."-- Provided by publisher. 606 $aEducation, Higher$xInternational cooperation 606 $aTransnational education 606 $aEducation and globalization 606 $aTeaching of a specific subject$2bicssc 610 0$aCommunication and Language Development 610 0$aComparative and International Education 610 0$aGlobalization 610 0$aHigher Education 610 0$aLanguage Issues 610 0$aManagement, Leadership and Governance 610 0$aMigration and Mobility 615 0$aEducation, Higher$xInternational cooperation. 615 0$aTransnational education. 615 0$aEducation and globalization. 615 7$aTeaching of a specific subject 676 $a378/.016 701 $aFoskett$b Nicholas$f1955-$01511810 701 $aMaringe$b Felix$01125792 801 0$bUWO 801 1$bCaBNVSL 801 2$bCaBNVSL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910785158803321 996 $aGlobalization and internationalization in higher education$93780542 997 $aUNINA
