The first part of the book therefore deals with the two passages that Josephus himself wrote on prayer. The second part represents a detailed analysis of 32 prayers selected (mainly) from Antiquitates Judaicae , as to content, context and relation to their source text (if any), revealing the variety of narrative and theological functions that they fulfil. The study also indicates the significance of Josephus? use of terminology derived from the Graeco-Roman world. New light is thus shed on Josephus? historiographic method as well as on his view of God. 410 0$aArbeiten zur Geschichte des antiken Judentums und des Urchristentums ;$vBd. 70. 606 $aPrayer$xJudaism$xHistory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPrayer$xJudaism$xHistory. 676 $a933.05092 700 $aJonquie?re$b Tessel M$g(Tessel Marina),$f1973-$0848605 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453292303321 996 $aPrayer in Josephus$91895404 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02861nam 2200637 450 001 9910208820503321 005 20230803213707.0 010 $a1-118-61070-9 010 $a1-118-61069-5 010 $a1-118-61072-5 035 $a(CKB)3710000000503328 035 $a(EBL)4036780 035 $a(OCoLC)868973361 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1501633 035 $a(DLC) 2013033068 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1501633 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10788061 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL538165 035 $a(OCoLC)855909963 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4036780 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL4036780 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr11111275 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000503328 100 $a20131109d2014 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 12$aA brief history of ancient Greek /$fStephen Colvin 205 $aFirst Edition. 210 1$aChichester, England :$cWiley-Blackwell,$d2014. 210 4$d©2014 215 $a1 online resource (184 p.) 225 0 $aBrief histories of the ancient world 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a1-306-06914-9 311 $a1-4051-4925-6 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aThe Indo-European Beginnings -- An Aegean Co-Production -- Mycenean Greek -- The Dark Ages -- The Alphabet -- The Greek Dialects -- Homer and the Epic Tradition -- The Language of Greek Poetry -- Bare Words: the Start of a Common Language -- Greek to Romaic and back. 330 $a"A Brief History of Ancient Greek accessibly depicts the social history of this ancient language from its Indo-European roots to the present day.
