They influence their selection from available modes, means and ends of action. Because of the societal importance of values they deserve scholarly attention. This volume inquires into the values present-day Europeans cherish by empirically analyzing the data of 2008/2010 wave of the European Values Study and explaining the consensus and contrasts in value orientations found. The contributors to this volume try to capture the diversities and similarities in value orientations between contemporary European countries in a range of life-spheres by unravelling context and composition effects. They are in search of evidence that either country level factors such as institutional arrangements or the composition of the populations of countries in terms of gender, age, socio-economic status, religion etcetera have the greatest impact. By doing so they paint the moral landscapes of Europe today. 410 0$aEuropean values studies ;$vv. 15. 606 $aSocial values$zEurope 606 $aValues$zEurope 606 $aCivil society$zEurope 606 $aWork$zEurope 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSocial values 615 0$aValues 615 0$aCivil society 615 0$aWork 676 $a303.3/72 701 $aArts$b Wilhelmus Antonius$f1946-$0857059 701 $aHalman$b Loek$0857060 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453172803321 996 $aValue contrasts and consensus in present-day Europe$92053111 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05277nam 22007572 450 001 9910795642103321 005 20210603064413.0 010 $a1-64189-133-5 024 7 $a10.1515/9781641891349 035 $a(CKB)5590000000442383 035 $a(OCoLC)1245842958 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse92934 035 $a(DE-B1597)574281 035 $a(OCoLC)1245674171 035 $a(DE-B1597)9781641891349 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6535416 035 $a(UkCbUP)CR9781641891349 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6535416 035 $a(EXLCZ)995590000000442383 100 $a20210426d2021|||| uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aChristianity and war in Medieval East Central Europe and Scandinavia /$fedited by Rados?aw Kotecki, Carsten Selch Jensen and Stephen Bennett$b[electronic resource] 205 $aNew edition. 210 1$aLeeds :$cArc Humanities Press,$d2021. 215 $a1 online resource (xii, 310 pages) $cdigital, PDF file(s) 225 1 $aBeyond medieval Europe 300 $aTitle from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 28 May 2021). 311 $a1-64189-134-3 327 $tFrontmatter -- $tCONTENTS -- $tList of Illustrations -- $tEditors? The contributors analyze cultures that lay outside Charlemagne's limes and the frontiers of the Byzantine Empire, to consider a region stretching from the Balkans to the Baltic and Scandinavia. The volume considers clerics as military leaders and propagandists, the role of Christian ritual and doctrine in warfare, and the adaptation and transformation of indigenous military cultures. It uncovers new information on perceptions of war and analyzes how local practices were incorporated into clerical narratives, enabling the reader to achieve a complete understanding of the period. 410 0$aBeyond medieval Europe. 606 $aChristianity and politics$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aChristianity and politics$zScandinavia$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aChurch and state$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aChurch and state$zScandinavia$xHistory$yTo 1500 607 $aEurope, Eastern$xHistory, Military 607 $aScandinavia$xHistory, Military 610 $aBaltic region. 610 $aChristianity and War. 610 $aEast Central Europe. 610 $aEcclesiastical History. 610 $aHoly War. 610 $aMedieval Scandinavia. 610 $aMilitary History. 610 $aNorthern and Eastern Europe. 610 $aWarrior-Bishops. 610 $amedieval clergy. 610 $amedieval warfare. 615 0$aChristianity and politics$xHistory 615 0$aChristianity and politics$xHistory 615 0$aChurch and state$xHistory 615 0$aChurch and state$xHistory 676 $a947.000902 702 $aKotecki$b Rados?aw 702 $aJensen$b Carsten Selch 702 $aBennett$b Stephen 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910795642103321 996 $aChristianity and war in Medieval East Central Europe and Scandinavia$93696367 997 $aUNINA
