Though ancient Greeks and Romans were also generous, they funded theaters and baths rather than poorhouses and orphanages. How might we explain this difference? In this significant reappraisal of charity in the biblical tradition, Gary Anderson argues that the poor constituted the privileged place where Jews and Christians met God. Though concerns for social justice were not unknown to early Jews and Christians, the poor achieved the importance they did primarily because they were thought to be "living altars," a place to make a sacrifice, a loan to God that he, as the ultimate guarantor, could be trusted to repay in turn. Contrary to the assertions of Reformation and modern critiques, belief in a heavenly treasury was not just about self-interest. Sifting through biblical and postbiblical texts, Anderson shows how charity affirms the goodness of the created order; the world was created through charity and therefore rewards it. 606 $aCharity$xBiblical teaching 606 $aChristianity 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCharity$xBiblical teaching. 615 0$aChristianity. 676 $a241/.4 700 $aAnderson$b Gary A.$f1955-$0768185 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452652203321 996 $aCharity$92478260 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04637nam 22007215 450 001 9910255019803321 005 20200701031048.0 010 $a3-319-46909-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-46909-6 035 $a(CKB)3710000000926202 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-46909-6 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5589241 035 $a(PPN)196324157 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000926202 100 $a20161025d2016 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aNature of Computation and Communication $eSecond International Conference, ICTCC 2016, Rach Gia, Vietnam, March 17-18, 2016, Revised Selected Papers /$fedited by Phan Cong Vinh, Leonard Barolli 205 $a1st ed. 2016. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2016. 215 $a1 online resource (XIII, 398 p. 175 illus.) 225 1 $aLecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering,$x1867-8211 ;$v168 311 $a3-319-46908-8 327 $aCurrying Self Actions in Autonomic Systems -- Towards User-aware Service Composition Dense 3D Mapping using Volume Registration -- Energy Efficient Spectrum Allocation in IP-over-EON with Traffic Grooming -- Comparison Between Parametric and Non-Parametric Approaches for Time-varying Delay Estimation with Application to Electromyography Signals -- An Approach to Detecting Brown Plant Hopper Based on Morphological Operations -- An Efficient Virtual Machine Migration Algorithm based on Minimization of Migration in Cloud Computing -- Fast Bilaterial Symmetry Detection Using Inverted Gradient Hash Maps -- A Review of Two Approaches for Joining 3D Meshes -- A synchronous network for Brown Planthopper surveillance based on hexagonal cellular automata Optimizing Energy Consumption with Delay Constraint in Wireless Sensor Networks -- Construction of Vietnamese Argument Annotated Dataset for Why-Question Answering Method -- FRFE: Fast Recursive Feature Elimination for Credit Scoring -- Joint Load Balancing and Coverage Optimizing Based On Tilt Adjusting in LTE Networks Copyediting. 330 $aThis book constitutes the post-conference proceedings of the Second International Conference on Nature of Computation and Communication, ICTCC 2016, held in March 2016 in Rach Gia, Vietnam. The 36 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from over 100 submissions. The papers cover formal methods for self-adaptive systems and discuss natural approaches and techniques for computation and communication. 410 0$aLecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering,$x1867-8211 ;$v168 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aComputer networks 606 $aPattern perception 606 $aComputers 606 $aOptical data processing 606 $aInformation storage and retrieval 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aComputer Communication Networks$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I13022 606 $aPattern Recognition$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I2203X 606 $aTheory of Computation$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16005 606 $aImage Processing and Computer Vision$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22021 606 $aInformation Storage and Retrieval$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I18032 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aComputer networks. 615 0$aPattern perception. 615 0$aComputers. 615 0$aOptical data processing. 615 0$aInformation storage and retrieval. 615 14$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aComputer Communication Networks. 615 24$aPattern Recognition. 615 24$aTheory of Computation. 615 24$aImage Processing and Computer Vision. 615 24$aInformation Storage and Retrieval. 676 $a629.836 702 $aVinh$b Phan Cong$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBarolli$b Leonard$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255019803321 996 $aNature of Computation and Communication$92582931 997 $aUNINA
