The Sustainable Development Goals have called attention to the need for the multifunctionality of landscapes that simultaneously contribute to multiple goals. In the UN decade of landscape restoration, as well as in response to the climate change urgency and biodiversity extinction crisis, an increase in global tree cover is widely seen as desirable, but its management by farmers or forest managers remains contested. Agroforestry research relates tree-soil-crop-livestock interactions at the plot level with landscape-level analysis of social-ecological systems and efforts to transcend the historical dichotomy between forest and agriculture as separate policy domains. An 'ecosystem services' perspective quantifies land productivity, flows of water, net greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity conservation, and combines an 'actor' perspective (farmer, landscape manager) with that of 'downstream' stakeholders (in the same watershed, ecologically conscious consumers elsewhere, global citizens) and higher-level regulators designing land-use policies and spatial zoning. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 606 $aResearch and information: general$2bicssc 610 $aadaptation 610 $aagriculture sector 610 $aagroforest 610 $aagroforestry 610 $aagroforestry coffee 610 $aagroforestry concessions 610 $aanastomosis 610 $aartesian wells 610 $aassisted natural regeneration (ANR) 610 $abelowground biodiversity 610 $aboundary work 610 $aBungoma 610 $acacao agroforestry 610 $acarbon payment 610 $acarbon sequestration 610 $acarbon storage 610 $acertification 610 $aclimate adaptation 610 $aclimate change mitigation 610 $aco-investment 610 $acocoa 610 $acocoa agroforestry 610 $acoffee 610 $acoinvestment 610 $acost efficiency 610 $acost-benefit analysis 610 $adeforestation 610 $aecohydrology 610 $aeconomic benefits 610 $aeconomics 610 $aecosystem services 610 $aentrainment 610 $aenvironmental stewardship 610 $aequity 610 $aerosion 610 $afarmer perspectives 610 $afarmer tree preference 610 $afinancial analysis 610 $aforest and landscape restoration (FLR) 610 $aforest classification 610 $aforest conversion 610 $aforest-water-people nexus 610 $aFraxinus dimorpha 610 $afruit tree-based agroforestry 610 $afruit trees 610 $aglobal 610 $agrazing management 610 $ainceptisols 610 $aindependent smallholders 610 $aindex of root anchoring 610 $ainnovation transfer 610 $ainstrumental values 610 $aintention 610 $aJambi 610 $aJava 610 $aKisumu 610 $aland restoration 610 $aland suitability 610 $aland-use change 610 $alandscape 610 $alandscape approach 610 $alandscape restoration 610 $alegality 610 $alivelihoods 610 $aMount Bromo-Tengger 610 $amycorrhizal attributes 610 $an/a 610 $anationally determined contribution 610 $anatural habitats 610 $aon-farm planned comparison 610 $aoptions by context 610 $aOryza 610 $aoverland flow 610 $apaddy cultivation 610 $apairwise ranking 610 $apalm oil 610 $aparticipatory and integrative research-extension 610 $aparticipatory methods 610 $apayment for ecosystem services 610 $aPeru 610 $aplanted forest 610 $aPontoscolex corethrurus 610 $apotential expansion areas 610 $arelational values 610 $aremittances 610 $arepresentative concentration pathway 610 $aresource competition 610 $arestoration 610 $areturning migrants 610 $arights-based approach 610 $arodents 610 $aroot length density 610 $aroot tensile strength 610 $arural-urban 610 $ascenario evaluation 610 $ashade tree species 610 $asilvopastoral 610 $asilvopasture 610 $aslope stability 610 $asocial-ecological systems 610 $asocial-ecological systems 610 $asoil chemical characteristics 610 $asoil engineers 610 $asoil macro-porosity 610 $asoil macroporosity 610 $asoil organic carbon 610 $asoil restoration 610 $asoil shear strength 610 $asoil water availability 610 $astakeholders 610 $astewardship 610 $astocktake 610 $aSulawesi 610 $aSumatra 610 $asustainable development goals (SDGs) 610 $asustainable intensification 610 $asystems improvement 610 $athroughfall 610 $atraditional ecological knowledge 610 $atree cover 610 $atree planting 610 $atree seedling survival 610 $atrees 610 $atrees on farm 610 $atrimming 610 $atropical forests 610 $auptake and expansion 610 $autility value 610 $aVietnam 610 $avillage savings and loan associations 610 $awater 610 $awater balance 610 $aWest Kalimantan 615 7$aResearch & information: general 615 7$aResearch and information: general 700 $aNoordwijk$b Meine van$4edt$01882105 702 $aNoordwijk$b Meine van$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557429103321 996 $aAgroforestry-Based Ecosystem Services$94497143 997 $aUNINA
