Kelly, ? After thirty Falls ? is the first collection of essays to be published on the American poet John Berryman (1914-1972) in over a decade. The book seeks to provoke new interest in this important figure with a group of original essays and appraisals by scholars from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and the United States. Exploring such areas as the poet?s engagements with Shakespeare and the American sonnet tradition, his use of the Trickster figure and the idea of performance in his poetics, it expands the interpretive framework by which Berryman may be evaluated and studied, and it will be of interest to students of modern American poetry at all levels. What makes the collection particularly valuable is its inclusion of previously unpublished material ? including a translation of a poem by Catullus and excerpts from the poet?s detailed notes on the life of Christ ? thereby providing new contexts for future assessments of Berryman?s contribution to the development of poetry, poetics, and the relationship between scholarship and other forms of writing in the twentieth century. 410 0$aDQR studies in literature ;$v38. 606 $aPoets, American 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPoets, American. 676 $a811.54 701 $aColeman$b Philip$0877608 701 $aMcGowan$b Philip$f1969-$0877609 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452083003321 996 $a"After thirty falls"$91959666 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02581nam 2200589Ia 450 001 9910453934203321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-281-84156-0 010 $a9786611841560 010 $a0-567-22878-9 035 $a(CKB)1000000000549984 035 $a(EBL)436187 035 $a(OCoLC)286966605 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000133805 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12052533 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000133805 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10046597 035 $a(PQKB)11563968 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC436187 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL436187 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10256297 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL184156 035 $a(OCoLC)893333859 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000549984 100 $a20000815d2000 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aCulture, entertainment and the Bible$b[electronic resource] /$fedited by George Aichele 210 $aSheffield, Eng. $cSheffield Academic Press$dc2000 215 $a1 online resource (233 p.) 225 0 $aJournal for the study of the Old Testament. The chapters, all written by experts in cultural studies of the Bible, explore how ideologies are produced, in various ways, when biblical texts are brought into play with each other, with other texts, and with the inevitable and continual demands for cultural and historical ""translation""-or ""recycling""-of the scriptures. The volume contains some theoretical reflections, but focuses on specific examples of cultural tr 410 4$aThe Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Studies 606 $aPopular culture 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPopular culture. 676 $a220.07 701 $aAichele$b George$0964540 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453934203321 996 $aCulture, entertainment and the Bible$92188462 997 $aUNINA
