Dabei wird u.a. auf die Komplexität und Arbitrarität des Regelwerks, auf die Frage der syntaktischen und semantischen Funktion des Angleichungsprinzips sowie auf die sozialpolitische Rolle des accord du participe passé eingegangen. Ziel dieser Ausführungen ist es, den 'Testfall' so aufzubereiten, daß er bei der anschließenden Analyse als Sonde der Grammatikographie dienen kann. Im Hauptteil vergleicht der Autor die Abhandlung des accord du participe passé in einer Auswahl französischer Grammatiken des 16. bis 20. Jahrhunderts (von Meigret, Arnauld/Lancelot, Condillac, Domergue, Damourette/Pichon, Grevisse, Weinrich). Dieser Vergleich soll zeigen, daß eine Interpretation und Systematisierung des accord du participe passé in Abhängigkeit vom zeitspezifischen kultur- und wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Hintergrund immer wieder neu vorgenommen werden kann, da Grammatikschreibung ein hermeneutischer Vorgang ist. Daher können Art und Gelingen der Interpretation der sprachlichen Strukturen bewertet werden: Das Schlagwort der 'Benutzerfreundlichkeit' ist aus der Diskussion um die neuen Medien bekannt; letztlich müssen sich jedoch auch Grammatiken an diesem Kriterium messen. Die verschiedenen Konzepte der untersuchten Grammatiken werden den hieraus resultierenden Anforderungen an Operationalität, Ökonomie etc. in höchst unterschiedlichem Maße gerecht.
