Max Cavitch begins by considering eighteenth-century elegists such as Franklin and Bradstreet. He then turns to elegy's adaptations during the Jacksonian age. Devoting unprecedented attention to the early African-American elegy, Cavitch sees in the poems the development of an African-American genealogical imagination. 606 $aElegiac poetry, American$xHistory and criticism 606 $aAmerican poetry$xHistory and criticism 606 $aMourning customs in literature 606 $aGrief in literature 606 $aDeath in literature 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aElegiac poetry, American$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aAmerican poetry$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aMourning customs in literature. 615 0$aGrief in literature. 615 0$aDeath in literature. 676 $a811.009/3548 700 $aCavitch$b Max$0956235 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910451775903321 996 $aAmerican elegy$92164984 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01223nam a2200289 i 4500 001 991001447959707536 008 111024s2003 de a b 110 0 ger d 020 $a3631505248 035 $ab14016023-39ule_inst 040 $aDip.to Lingue$bita 245 01$a"Standardfragen" :$bSoziolinguistische Perspektiven auf Sprachgeschichte, Sprachkontakt und Sprachvariation /$cJannis K. Research in this area has been described as 'a veritable mine field' and 'a can of worms'. Because of the scope and complexity of the literature, no comprehensive survey of the subject has been written in the twentieth century. Delbert Burkett's book fills this need. It provides a comprehensive historical overview of the debate from the patristic period to 1996, and gives an evaluation of that research and a summation of the present state of the question. Burkett concludes that despite nineteen centuries of 'Son of Man' study there is no consensus concerning the meaning or origin of the expression; the debate is therefore a prime example of the limits of New Testament scholarship. 410 0$aMonograph series (Society for New Testament Studies) ;$v107. 606 $aSon of Man$xHistory of doctrines 615 0$aSon of Man$xHistory of doctrines. 676 $a232/.1 700 $aBurkett$b Delbert Royce$01482114 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780088503321 996 $aThe Son of Man debate$93776058 997 $aUNINA
