Is the United States truly lagging in its ability to compete effectively in world markets? Concern over this question has been voiced in both the business and government sectors, as well as by academic economists. A recent conference, sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research, explored the effects of trade policies on a nation's ability to compete in international markets. In Trade Policies for International Competitiveness, Robert C. Feenstra collects seven papers from the conference, each accompanied by discussants' comments, and adds a helpful introduction. Some of the issues considered by contributors are effects of macroeconomic and strategic foreign policies on competitiveness; the recent influx of foreign direct investment in the United States, primarily from Japan; the extent to which Japanese trade patterns are a reflection of underlying factor and endowments rather than trade barriers; and the market structure of Canadian industries, including applications for ongoing U.S.-Canadian free trade negotiations. Topical and provocative, these papers will be of value to economists, policymakers, and those in the business world. 410 0$aNational Bureau of Economic Research conference report. 410 0$aConference report (National Bureau of Economic Research) 606 $aForeign trade promotion$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aInvestments, American$vCongresses 606 $aCompetition, International$vCongresses 607 $aUnited States$xCommercial policy$vCongresses 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aForeign trade promotion 615 0$aInvestments, American 615 0$aCompetition, International 676 $a382/.3/0973 701 $aFeenstra$b Robert C$0126602 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910451739303321 996 $aTrade policies for international competitiveness$91142934 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03193nam0 22005893i 450 001 MIL0039972 005 20251003044219.0 020 $aIT$b7210262 100 $a19951211d1972 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $aita$cita 102 $ait 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 183 1$6z01$anc$2RDAcarrier 200 1 $aˆUn ‰sindacato italiano negli anni sessanta$ela FIM-CISL dall'associazione alla classe$fGian Primo Cella, Bruno Manghi, Paola Piva 210 $a[Bari]$cDe Donato$dstampa 1972 215 $a323 p.$d21 cm. 225 | $aMovimento operaio$v3 410 0$1001RAV0043321$12001 $aMovimento operaio$v3 500 10$aˆUn ‰sindacato italiano negli anni sessanta.$3TSA1857679$9CFIV003902$935246 606 $aFederazione italiana metalmeccanici$x1960-1969$2FIR$3LO1C046815$9I 676 $a331.88$9Economia del lavoro.
