As part of this interest, anthropologists, historians, sociologists and others have paid particular attention to the roles which food and drink have played in the construction of local, regional and national identity in Europe. This volume provides the first multidisciplinary look at the contributions which food and alcohol make to contemporary European identities, including the part they play in processes of European integration and Europeanization. It provides theoretically informed ethnographic and historical case studies of transformations and continuity in social and cultural patterns in the production and consumption of European foods and drinks, in order to explore how eating and drinking have helped to construct various local, regional and national identities in Europe. Of particular note in this volume is its attention to how food and drink intersect with recent attempts to foster greater European integration, in part through the recognition and support of common and diverse European cultures and identities. 410 0$aEuropean Studies$v22. 606 $aFood$xSocial aspects$zEurope 606 $aCooking$xSocial aspects$zEurope 606 $aFood habits$xSocial aspects$zEurope 606 $aDrinking of alcoholic beverages$xSocial aspects$zEurope 606 $aNational characteristics, European 606 $aGroup identity$zEurope 606 $aCooking$xSocial aspects$2fast 606 $aDrinking of alcoholic beverages$xSocial aspects$2fast 606 $aFood habits$xSocial aspects$2fast 606 $aFood$xSocial aspects$2fast 606 $aGroup identity$2fast 606 $aNational characteristics, European$2fast 607 $aEurope$2fast 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aFood$xSocial aspects 615 0$aCooking$xSocial aspects 615 0$aFood habits$xSocial aspects 615 0$aDrinking of alcoholic beverages$xSocial aspects 615 0$aNational characteristics, European. 615 0$aGroup identity 615 7$aCooking$xSocial aspects. 615 7$aDrinking of alcoholic beverages$xSocial aspects. 615 7$aFood habits$xSocial aspects. 615 7$aFood$xSocial aspects. 615 7$aGroup identity. 615 7$aNational characteristics, European. 676 $a394.120940902 701 $aWilson$b Thomas M.$f1951-$0309805 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910451469203321 996 $aFood, drink and identity in Europe$92214778 997 $aUNINA
