People from varying regions and backgrounds have different ways of saying the same thing. For example, in English some people say "test," while others say "tes'," dropping the final "t." Noted scholars Ceil Lucas, Robert Bayley, and Clayton Valli led a team of exceptional researchers in applying techniques for analyzing spoken language variation to ASL. Their observations at the phonological, lexical, morphological, and syntactic levels demonstrate that ASL variation correlates with many of the same driving social factors of spoken languages, including age, socioeconomic class, gender, ethnic background, region, and sexual orientation. Internal constraints that mandate variant choices for spoken languages have been compared to ASL as well, with intriguing results. 410 0$aSociolinguistics in deaf communities series ;$vv. 7. 606 $aAmerican Sign Language$xSocial aspects 606 $aSociolinguistics 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aAmerican Sign Language$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aSociolinguistics. 700 $aLucas$b Ceil$0174959 701 $aValli$b Clayton$0858956 701 $aRose$b Mary$0858957 701 $aBayley$b Robert$f1943-$0858958 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910450626103321 996 $aSociolinguistic variation in American sign language$91917152 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02584nam 2200541Ia 450 001 9910970058103321 005 20240416161130.0 010 $a9781847602350 010 $a1847602355 035 $a(CKB)2550000001042868 035 $a(EBL)3306135 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000961003 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11605680 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000961003 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10961717 035 $a(PQKB)11075030 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3306135 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3306135 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10678820 035 $a(OCoLC)846986047 035 $a(Perlego)3051498 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001042868 100 $a20130417d2012 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aGrasmere, 2012 $eselected papers from the Wordsworth Summer Conference /$fcompiled by Richard Gravil on behalf of the Wordsworth Conference Foundation 210 $aPenrith, CA $cHEB Humanities E-Books$dc2012 215 $a1 online resource (199 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9781847602367 311 08$a1847602363 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $a""Cover""; ""Licence and Use""; ""Title Page""; ""Copyright""; ""CONTENTS""; ""Contents, continued""; ""Foreword""; ""Heather Glen: We are seven in the 1790's""; ""Judyta Frodyma: Biblical Echoes in Home at Grasmere""; ""Pamela Woof: Dorothy Wordsworth, Writer: the Middle Years""; ""Suzanne Stewart: Dorothy Wordsworth and Synaesthetic Experience""; ""Judith W. Catholic Culture in the USA articulates what is perhaps only implicit in other scholarship with regard to how theological teachings trickle down from the Vatican and influence decisions about food, marriage, sex, community celebrations, and medical care. John Portmann defends these Catholic dissidents and explores alternative expressions of Catholic devotion. Taking a holistic approach, the author indicates cultural change as resulting from interaction among individual rights assertions, grassroots mobilization, scholarly production and legislative innovation."--Bloomsbury Publishing. 606 $aCatholics$zUnited States$xReligion 606 $2Roman Catholicism, Roman Catholic Church 615 0$aCatholics$xReligion. 676 $a282/.7309045 700 $aPortmann$b John$0955973 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910964596003321 996 $aCatholic culture in the USA$94336406 997 $aUNINA
