It builds a narrative not of poetry in the 20th century but of the 20th century in poetry. A high proportion of literature courses include an exploration of the issues of gender, ethnicity, theory, nationality, politics and social class. But until now most teaching has focused on the novel as the most useful way of raising these issues. Peter Childs demonstrates that all poetry is historically produced and consumed and is part of our understanding of society and identity. This student-friendly critical survey includes chapters on: the Georgians; First World War poetry; Eliot; Yeats; the thirties; post-war poetry; contemporary anthologies; women's poetry; and Northern Irish and black British poets. Placing literature in a wider social context, this book examines the way in which recent theory has questioned divisions between "history" and literature, between "text" and "event", between society and the individual. 606 $aEnglish poetry$y20th century$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLiterature and history$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aLiterature and society$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEnglish poetry$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLiterature and history$xHistory 615 0$aLiterature and society$xHistory 676 $a821/.9109 700 $aChilds$b Peter$f1962-$0165610 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910450545403321 996 $aThe twentieth century in poetry$92454036 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02819nam 2200637 a 450 001 9910816984603321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9786612123610 010 $a9781282123618 010 $a1282123610 010 $a9780470745069 010 $a0470745061 010 $a9780470745021 010 $a0470745029 035 $a(CKB)1000000000719686 035 $a(EBL)427928 035 $a(OCoLC)437111498 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000353732 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11273005 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000353732 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10302037 035 $a(PQKB)11282915 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC427928 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL427928 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10298037 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL212361 035 $a(Perlego)2750090 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000719686 100 $a20081219d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aAdvanced techniques in diagnostic cellular pathology /$fedited by Mary Hannon-Fletcher and Perry Maxwell 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aChichester, West Sussex ;$aHoboken, N.J. $cJohn Wiley & Sons$d2009 215 $a1 online resource (216 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9780470515976 311 08$a047051597X 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aVirtual microscopy / Jim Diamond and David McCleary -- Cytopathology / Mary Hannon-Fletcher -- Flow cytometry / Ian Dimmick -- Immunocytochemistry / Perry Maxwell and Merdol Ibrahim -- Microarray-based comparative genomic hybridization / David S.P.
