This book is the first comprehensive synthesis of four thousand years of prehistory for the entire Titicaca region. It is a fascinating story of the transition from hunting and gathering to early agriculture, to the formation of the Tiwanaku and Pucara civilizations, and to the double conquest of the region, first by the powerful neighboring Inca in the fifteenth century and a century later by the Spanish Crown. Based on more than fifteen years of field research in Peru and Bolivia, Charles Stanish's book brings together a wide range of ethnographic, historical, and archaeological data, including material that has not yet been published. This landmark work brings the author's intimate knowledge of the ethnography and archaeology in this region to bear on major theoretical concerns in evolutionary anthropology. Stanish provides a broad comparative framework for evaluating how these complex societies developed. After giving an overview of the region's archaeology and cultural history, he discusses the history of archaeological research in the Titicaca Basin, as well as its geography, ecology, and ethnography. He then synthesizes the data from six archaeological periods in the Titicaca Basin within an evolutionary anthropological framework. Titicaca Basin prehistory has long been viewed through the lens of first Inca intellectuals and the Spanish state. This book demonstrates that the ancestors of the Aymara people of the Titicaca Basin rivaled the Incas in wealth, sophistication, and cultural genius. The provocative data and interpretations of this book will also make us think anew about the rise and fall of other civilizations throughout history. 606 $aIndians of South America$zTiticaca, Lake, Region (Peru and Bolivia)$xAntiquities 606 $aTiwanaku culture 607 $aTiticaca Lake Region (Peru and Bolivia)$xAntiquities 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aIndians of South America$xAntiquities. 615 0$aTiwanaku culture. 676 $a984/.1201 700 $aStanish$b Charles$f1956-$01028222 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910449821803321 996 $aAncient Titicaca$92460340 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00922nam a2200253 i 4500 001 991002948189707536 005 20020509105446.0 008 010514s1969 it ||| | ita 035 $ab11084984-39ule_inst 035 $aPARLA172123$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Filosofia$bita 082 0 $a170 100 1 $aMandeville, Bernard de$0122695 245 13$aLa favola delle api /$ctraduzione, introduzione e commento di Maria Goretti 260 $aFirenze :$bLe Monnier,$c1969 300 $aIV, 55 p. ;$c20 cm. 490 0 $aCollana di testi di filosofia e pedagogia ad uso delle scuole 700 1 $aGoretti, Maria 907 $a.b11084984$b23-02-17$c28-06-02 912 $a991002948189707536 945 $aLE005IF XXIV D 20$g1$i2005000260773$lle005$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u3$v0$w3$x0$y.i11215677$z28-06-02 996 $aFavola delle api$9856722 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale005$b01-01-01$cm$da $e-$fita$git $h3$i1 LEADER 01806nam 2200469I 450 001 9910713063203321 005 20200320092634.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002499570 035 $a(OCoLC)1145339054 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002499570 100 $a20200320d2017 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aChildren living with parents who have a substance use disorder /$fRachel N.
