Neta Crawford proposes a theory of argument in world politics which focuses on the role of ethical arguments in fostering changes in long-standing practices. She examines five hundred years of history, analyzing the role of ethical arguments in colonialism, the abolition of slavery and forced labour, and decolonization. Pointing out that decolonization is the biggest change in world politics in the last five hundred years, the author examines ethical arguments from the sixteenth century justifying Spanish conquest of the Americas, and from the twentieth century over the fate of Southern Africa. The book also offers a prescriptive analysis of how ethical arguments could be deployed to deal with the problem of humanitarian intervention. Co-winner of the APSA Jervis-Schroeder Prize for the best book on international history and politics. 410 0$aCambridge studies in international relations ;$v81. 517 3 $aArgument & Change in World Politics 606 $aInternational relations$xMoral and ethical aspects 615 0$aInternational relations$xMoral and ethical aspects. 676 $a172/.4 700 $aCrawford$b Neta$0853665 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910449794803321 996 $aArgument and change in world politics$91906066 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05226nam 2200709Ia 450 001 9910962211803321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9780817945336 010 $a0817945334 035 $a(CKB)2670000000276553 035 $a(EBL)1370742 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000799020 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11462977 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000799020 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10754412 035 $a(PQKB)11246529 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3301861 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3301861 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10622914 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL551713 035 $a(OCoLC)655018992 035 $a(Perlego)970546 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000276553 100 $a20040225d2004 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aPopulation puzzle $eboom or bust? /$fedited by Laura E.
