The macroscopic propagation of both laser and high-harmonic fields is taken into account by solving Maxwell's wave equations, while the single-atom or single-molecule response is treated with a quantitative rescattering theory by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. This book demonstrates for the first time that observed experimental HHG spectra of atoms and molecules can be accurately reproduced theoretically when precise experimental conditions are known. The macroscopic HHG can be expressed as a product of a macroscopic wave packet and a photorecombination cross section, where the former depends on laser and experimental conditions while the latter is the property of target atoms or molecules. The factorization makes it possible to retrieve microscopically atomic or molecular structure information from the measured macroscopic HHG spectra. This book also investigates other important issues about HHG, such as contributions from multiple molecular orbitals, the minimum in the HHG spectrum, the spatial mode of laser beams, and the generation of an isolated attosecond pulse. Additionally, this book presents the photoelectron angular distribution of aligned molecules ionized by the HHG light. 410 0$aSpringer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,$x2190-5053 606 $aAtoms 606 $aPhysics 606 $aAtomic structure   606 $aMolecular structure  606 $aLasers 606 $aPhotonics 606 $aAtoms and Molecules in Strong Fields, Laser Matter Interaction$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P24025 606 $aAtomic/Molecular Structure and Spectra$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P24017 606 $aNumerical and Computational Physics, Simulation$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P19021 606 $aOptics, Lasers, Photonics, Optical Devices$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P31030 615 0$aAtoms. 615 0$aPhysics. 615 0$aAtomic structure  . 615 0$aMolecular structure . 615 0$aLasers. 615 0$aPhotonics. 615 14$aAtoms and Molecules in Strong Fields, Laser Matter Interaction. 615 24$aAtomic/Molecular Structure and Spectra. 615 24$aNumerical and Computational Physics, Simulation. 615 24$aOptics, Lasers, Photonics, Optical Devices. 676 $a530.1 676 $a530.12 700 $aJin$b Cheng$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0935777 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910438122203321 996 $aTheory of Nonlinear Propagation of High Harmonics Generated in a Gaseous Medium$92108090 997 $aUNINA
