The book presents three contributions that are made to the field of transportation. First, a model considering the minimization of customer inconvenience is formulated. Second, a pro-active real-time control approach is proposed. Stochastic knowledge is generated from past request information by a new forecasting approach and is used in the pro-active approach to guide vehicles to request-likely areas before real requests arrive there. Various computational results are presented to show that in many cases the pro-active approach is able to achieve significantly improved results. Moreover, a measure for determining the structural quality of request data sets is also proposed. The third contribution of this book is a method that is presented for considering driver inconvenience aspects which arise from vehicle en-route diversion activities. Specifically, this method makes it possible to restrict the number of performed vehicle en-route diversion activities. 410 0$aContributions to Management Science,$x1431-1941 606 $aOperations research 606 $aDecision making 606 $aProduction management 606 $aSales management 606 $aComputer simulation 606 $aOperations Research/Decision Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/521000 606 $aOperations Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/519000 606 $aSales/Distribution$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/524000 606 $aSimulation and Modeling$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I19000 615 0$aOperations research. 615 0$aDecision making. 615 0$aProduction management. 615 0$aSales management. 615 0$aComputer simulation. 615 14$aOperations Research/Decision Theory. 615 24$aOperations Management. 615 24$aSales/Distribution. 615 24$aSimulation and Modeling. 676 $a388.324042 700 $aFerrucci$b Francesco$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0191727 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910438066903321 996 $aPro-active Dynamic Vehicle Routing$92536700 997 $aUNINA
