It argues that the legal method of systematisation that has been developed in a welfare-state context is increasingly used as a regulative tool to functionally integrate the market. The book uses the example of EU product regulation as a reference to illustrate the impact of systematisation on EU law. It draws conclusions from this phenomenon and redefines the current place and origin of systematisation in the EU legal system. It puts forward and demonstrates two main arguments. First, in certain sectors such as in EU product safety law, the quality of EU law changes from a sector-specific and reactive field of law to an increasingly coherent legal system at European level. Therefore, instead of punctual market intervention, it increasingly governs whole market areas. By doing so, it challenges and often fully replaces the respective welfare-based legal systems in the Member States for the benefit of the ideal of a market-driven EU legal system. Second, at European level, the ideal is in development. This illustrates the change of the function of Statecraft from nation-states to market-states. 410 0$aIus Gentium: Comparative Perspectives on Law and Justice,$x2214-9902 ;$v26 606 $aLaw$xEurope 606 $aLaw$xPhilosophy 606 $aLaw$xHistory 606 $aPhilosophy, Modern 606 $aPrivate international law 606 $aConflict of laws 606 $aInternational law 606 $aComparative law 606 $aLaw 606 $aEuropean Law 606 $aPhilosophy of Law 606 $aTheories of Law, Philosophy of Law, Legal History 606 $aEarly Modern Philosophy 606 $aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law 606 $aFundamentals of Law 615 0$aLaw$xEurope. 615 0$aLaw$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aLaw$xHistory. 615 0$aPhilosophy, Modern. 615 0$aPrivate international law. 615 0$aConflict of laws. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aComparative law. 615 0$aLaw. 615 14$aEuropean Law. 615 24$aPhilosophy of Law. 615 24$aTheories of Law, Philosophy of Law, Legal History. 615 24$aEarly Modern Philosophy. 615 24$aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law. 615 24$aFundamentals of Law. 676 $a344.24042 700 $aPurnhagen$b Kai$01064175 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910438061403321 996 $aThe politics of systematization in EU product safety regulation$94197323 997 $aUNINA
