Mark Alfano challenges this theory and asks, not whether character is empirically adequate, but what characters human beings could have and develop. Although psychology suggests that most people do not have robust character traits such as courage, honesty and open-mindedness, Alfano argues that we have reason to attribute these virtues to people because such attributions function as self-fulfilling prophecies - children become more studious if they are told that they are hard-working and adults become more generous if they are told that they are generous. He argues that we should think of virtue and character as social constructs: there is no such thing as virtue without social reinforcement. His original and provocative book will interest a wide range of readers in contemporary ethics, epistemology, moral psychology and empirically informed philosophy. 606 $aCharacter 606 $aVirtue 606 $aNormativity (Ethics) 615 0$aCharacter. 615 0$aVirtue. 615 0$aNormativity (Ethics) 676 $a179/.9 700 $aAlfano$b Mark$f1983-$01055756 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462792003321 996 $aCharacter as moral fiction$92489393 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01374nam a2200277 i 4500 001 991002767349707536 008 070830s2006 it h b 0 ita d 020 $a8877021519 035 $ab13577219-39ule_inst 040 $aBiblioteca Interfacoltà$bita 082 04$a016.944 110 0 $aBiblioteca civica $c$0604155 245 10$aNapoleone e la sua epoca nel Fondo antico della Biblioteca civica "Bruno Emmert" di Arco :$bcatalogo della mostra, Arco, Palazzo dei Panni 5-21 maggio 2006 /$ca cura di Mauro Nequirito 260 $aTrento :$bProvincia autonoma di Trento, Soprintendenza per i beni librari e archivistici,$c2006 300 $a131 p. :$bfacs. ;$c21x24 cm 440 0$aBeni librari e archivistici del Trentino.$pQuaderni ;$v8 600 04$aNapoleone$c$vBibliografia 610 4$aArco$c $bBiblioteca civica$xCataloghi$xEsposizione$y2006 650 4$aLibri rari, antichi e di pregio$xEsposiziony$y2006 700 1 $aNequirito, Mauro 907 $a.b13577219$b02-04-14$c30-08-07 912 $a991002767349707536 945 $aLE002 944 BIB$g1$i2002000608529$lle002$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15063653$z25-01-10 996 $aNapoleone e la sua epoca nel Fondo antico della Biblioteca civica "Bruno Emmert" di Arco$91219580 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale002$b30-08-07$cm$da $e-$fita$git $h0$i0 LEADER 07583oam 2200589 c 450 001 9910437634303321 005 20260102090118.0 010 $a9783847416609 010 $a384741660X 024 3 $a9783847416609 035 $a(CKB)4100000011772084 035 $a(Verlag Barbara Budrich)9783847416609 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/63637 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC30196603 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL30196603 035 $a(Perlego)3256957 035 $a(oapen)doab63637 035 $a(OCoLC)1256254421 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000011772084 100 $a20260102d2021 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnnunnnannuu 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aInternational Perspectives on School Settings, Education Policy and Digital Strategies $eA Transatlantic Discourse in Education Research /$fAnnika Wilmers, Sieglinde Jornitz 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aLeverkusen$cVerlag Barbara Budrich$d2021 215 $a1 online resource (390 p.) 300 $aIn the field of education, transatlantic discourse has been shaped by an exchange of ideas for a long time. Over the past two decades, education science has increasingly become internationally networked. Since 2015, the Office for International Cooperation in Education at DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education has organized international sessions on education research at the Annual Meetings of the American Educational Research Association, thus providing a floor for transatlantic exchange on current research topics. The volume gives an overview of the transatlantic activities in education research with regard to these sessions. It represents a collection of topics ranging from school development to the use of large-scale assessment and digital data in education to questions related to migration and public education, or the economization of education. Moreover, the volume offers a reflection on the gains respectively obstacles linked to international exchange. 311 08$a9783847422990 311 08$a3847422995 327 $aSieglinde Jornitz, Annika Wilmers - Transatlantic Encounters: Placing Education Research Interests in an International Context I.
