The group assessed ecosystem services using data from ecological field and scenario-driven model experiments, and with the help of comparative field surveys of the natural forest and its anthropogenic replacement system for agriculture. The book offers insights into the impacts of environmental change on various service categories mentioned in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005): cultural, regulating, supporting and provisioning ecosystem services. Examples focus on biodiversity of plants and animals including trophic networks, and abiotic/biotic parameters such as soils, regional climate, water, nutrient and sediment cycles. The types of threats considered include land use and climate changes, as well as atmospheric fertilization. In terms of regulating and provisioning services, the emphasis is primarily on water regulation and supply as well as climate regulation and carbon sequestration. With regard to provisioning services, the synthesis of the book provides science-based recommendations for a sustainable land use portfolio including several options such as forestry, pasture management and the practices of indigenous peoples. In closing, the authors show how they integrated the local society by pursuing capacity building in compliance with the CBD-ABS (Convention on Biological Diversity - Access and Benefit Sharing), in the form of education and knowledge transfer for application. 410 0$aEcological Studies, Analysis and Synthesis,$x0070-8356 ;$v221 606 $aEcosystems 606 $aSustainable development 606 $aRegional planning 606 $aUrban planning 606 $aClimate change 606 $aEnvironmental management 606 $aConservation biology 606 $aEcology  606 $aEcosystems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L1904X 606 $aSustainable Development$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U34000 606 $aLandscape/Regional and Urban Planning$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J15000 606 $aClimate Change$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U12007 606 $aEnvironmental Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U17009 606 $aConservation Biology/Ecology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19150 607 $aAndes Region$2fast 607 $aEcuador$2fast 615 0$aEcosystems. 615 0$aSustainable development. 615 0$aRegional planning. 615 0$aUrban planning. 615 0$aClimate change. 615 0$aEnvironmental management. 615 0$aConservation biology. 615 0$aEcology . 615 14$aEcosystems. 615 24$aSustainable Development. 615 24$aLandscape/Regional and Urban Planning. 615 24$aClimate Change. 615 24$aEnvironmental Management. 615 24$aConservation Biology/Ecology. 676 $a333.951609866 702 $aBendix$b Jörg$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBeck$b Erwin$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBräuning$b Achim$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aMakeschin$b Franz$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aMosandl$b Reinhard$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aScheu$b Stefan$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aWilcke$b Wolfgang$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910437609803321 996 $aEcosystem Services, Biodiversity and Environmental Change in a Tropical Mountain Ecosystem of South Ecuador$92509732 997 $aUNINA
