In this study, I discuss the relations among these themes. Using Luhmann's social-systems theory for modelling meaning processing and Shannon's theory for information processing, I show that synergy can add new options to an innovation system as redundancy. The capacity to develop new options is more important for innovation than past performance. Entertaining a model of possible future states makes a knowledge-based system increasingly anticipatory. The trade-off between the incursion of future states on the historical developments can be measured using the Triple-Helix synergy indicator. This is shown, for example, for the Italian national and regional systems of innovation. 410 0$aQualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Scientific and Scholarly Communication,$x2365-8371 606 $aSociology?Research 606 $aSociology 606 $aCommunication 606 $aMarket research 606 $aSemantics 606 $aResearch Methodology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22190 606 $aKnowledge - Discourse$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22120 606 $aCommunication Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X28000 606 $aMarket Research/Competitive Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/513030 606 $aSemantics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/N39000 610 $aResearch Methodology 610 $aKnowledge - Discourse 610 $aCommunication Studies 610 $aMarket Research/Competitive Intelligence 610 $aSemantics 610 $aSociological Methods 610 $aBiotechnology 610 $aMedia and Communication 610 $aMarketing 610 $aLinguistics 610 $aTriple-Helix synergy 610 $aA calculus of redundancy 610 $ahorizons of meaning 610 $aanticipatory systems 610 $aoperationalisation and measurement 610 $aneo-evolutionary 610 $asocial-systems theory 610 $aentropy statistics 610 $aopen access 610 $aSocial research & statistics 610 $aSociology 610 $aMarket research 610 $aSemantics, discourse analysis, stylistics 615 0$aSociology?Research. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aCommunication. 615 0$aMarket research. 615 0$aSemantics. 615 14$aResearch Methodology. 615 24$aKnowledge - Discourse. 615 24$aCommunication Studies. 615 24$aMarket Research/Competitive Intelligence. 615 24$aSemantics. 676 $a301.072 700 $aLeydesdorff$b Loet$g(Louis Andre?),$f1948-$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01076014 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910433228603321 996 $aThe Evolutionary Dynamics of Discursive Knowledge$92586054 997 $aUNINA
