Bell utilizes a fresh approach for assessing the character of transmission reflected in the second and third century Greek manuscripts of the Gospel of John. The textual transmission of New Testament writings in the period prior to the fourth century has been characterized by a number of scholars as error-prone, free, fluid, wild, and chaotic. This study is an inquiry into the validity of this general characterization. Since John is the most attested New Testament book among the early papyri, is the best attested in the second century, and has the highest number of papyri that share overlapping text, it serves well as a case study into the level of fluidity and stability of the New Testament text in the earliest period of transmission. 410 0$aNew Testament tools, studies and documents.$x0077-8842 ;$vVolume 54. 606 $aTransmission of texts 615 0$aTransmission of texts. 676 $a226.5/0486 700 $aBell$b Lonnie D.$01627257 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910810398403321 996 $aThe early textual transmission of John$93963762 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01292nas 2200421- 450 001 9910424657403321 005 20241223110043.0 011 $a2523-1154 035 $a(OCoLC)1227307296 035 $a(CKB)4100000011568266 035 $a(CONSER)--2021242663 035 $a(MiFhGG)52HA 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000011568266 100 $a20201209a20179999 o-- a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 181 $csti$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aSOTL in the south 210 1$aAuckland Park, South Africa :$cUniversity of Johannesburg,$d2018- 215 $a1 online resource 300 $a"A journal dedicated to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the 'global south'." 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 517 1 $aSOTL 517 1 $aScholarship of teaching & learning in the south 606 $aEducation$zSouthern Hemisphere$vPeriodicals 606 $aEducation$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00902499 607 $aSouthern Hemisphere$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aEducation 615 7$aEducation. 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910424657403321 996 $aSOTL in the south$92548056 997 $aUNINA
