While Elizabeth's parallels with various biblical figures--including Deborah, Esther, Judith, David, Solomon, and Daniel--have all received varying levels of attention in the scholarship, this is the first analysis of how biblical analogy functioned as a religio-political tool for Elizabeth across her reign. Taking both a chronological and thematic approach, this book addresses this gap by analyzing Elizabeth and her supporters' use of the Old Testament to provide justification for decisions (or the lack thereof), to offer counsel to the Queen, and to vindicate both female kingship and the royal supremacy. It argues that biblical analogies were a vital component of Elizabethan royal iconography, and that their widespread use demonstrates their potency as a tool for legitimizing and sustaining her power. 410 0$aGender and power in the premodern world. 606 $aBible and politics$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01744447 606 $aDivine right of kings$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00895765 606 $aDivine right of kings 606 $aBible and politics$zEngland$xHistory$y16th century 607 $aEngland$2fast 608 $aHistory. 610 $aElizabeth I. 610 $aOld Testament. 610 $abiblical analogies. 610 $aearly modern religion. 610 $apolitics and religion. 615 7$aBible and politics. 615 7$aDivine right of kings. 615 0$aDivine right of kings. 615 0$aBible and politics$xHistory 676 $a942.055092 700 $aNorrie$b Aidan$01337439 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910838309603321 996 $aElizabeth I and the Old Testament$94139067 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03088nam 22006615 450 001 9910420943103321 005 20251010080452.0 010 $a9783030511890 010 $a3030511898 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-51189-0 035 $a(CKB)4100000011457925 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6352907 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-51189-0 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6352907 035 $a(OCoLC)1239988408 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6352749 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6352749 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/72626 035 $a(Perlego)4417968 035 $a(ODN)ODN0010074100 035 $a(oapen)doab72626 035 $a(oapen)doab30983 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000011457925 100 $a20200917d2020 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe Narrative Subject $eStorytelling in the Age of the Internet /$fby Christina Schachtner 205 $a1st ed. 2020. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2020. 215 $a1 online resource (xv, 269 pages) $cillustrations; digital, PDF file(s) 311 08$aPrint version: 9783030511883 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $a1. These narratives discuss interconnectedness, self-staging, and managing boundaries. From the perspective of media and cultural research, they can be read as responses to the challenges of contemporary society. Providing empirical evidence and thought-provoking explanations, this book will be useful to students and scholars who wish to uncover how ongoing processes of cultural transformation are reflected in the thoughts and feelings of the internet generation. . 606 $aCommunication 606 $aSocial media 606 $aDigital media 606 $aMedia and Communication 606 $aSocial Media 606 $aDigital and New Media 615 0$aCommunication. 615 0$aSocial media. 615 0$aDigital media. 615 14$aMedia and Communication. 615 24$aSocial Media. 615 24$aDigital and New Media. 676 $a302.23 676 $a301 686 $aSOC052000$2bisacsh 700 $aSchachtner$b Christina$0985115 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910420943103321 996 $aThe narrative subject$92251283 997 $aUNINA
