Andrea Creech is Professor of Didactique Instrumentale at the Faculty of Music, Université Laval, Canada, where she holds a Canada Research Chair in music in community. Maria Varvarigou is Lecturer in Music at Mary Immaculate College, Ireland. Her research interests focus on playing by ear and informal learning, intergenerational music making and choral conducting education. This book sets out a contemporary perspective on music education, highlighting complex intersections between informal, non-formal and formal practices and contexts. At a time when the boundaries between music learning and participation are increasingly blurred, this volume is distinctive in challenging a ?siloed? approach to understanding the diverse international music education landscape. Instead, the book proposes a multi-layered continuum of practices that can be applied across a range of formal, informal or non-formal concepts to support the development of musical possible selves. It challenges existing conceptions of learning in music education in part by drawing on research in adult learning, but also by considering the contexts in which learning takes place, and the extent to which this learning can be classified as formal, informal or non-formal. . 606 $aArt education 606 $aLearning 606 $aInstruction 606 $aChild development 606 $aLifelong learning 606 $aAdult education 606 $aCreativity and Arts Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O11000 606 $aLearning & Instruction$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O22000 606 $aEarly Childhood Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O37000 606 $aLifelong Learning/Adult Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O42000 615 0$aArt education. 615 0$aLearning. 615 0$aInstruction. 615 0$aChild development. 615 0$aLifelong learning. 615 0$aAdult education. 615 14$aCreativity and Arts Education. 615 24$aLearning & Instruction. 615 24$aEarly Childhood Education. 615 24$aLifelong Learning/Adult Education. 676 $a780.71 676 $a370 700 $aCreech$b Andrea$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0861259 702 $aVarvarigou$b Maria$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 702 $aHallam$b Susan$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910416091603321 996 $aContexts for Music Learning and Participation$91922173 997 $aUNINA
