These contexts are: the cultural values that inform the writers of texts, the relationship between the text and the reader or community of readers, and the production of texts themselves as social artifacts. In the first, predominantly theoretical, section of the book, John Rogerson applies the perspective of Adorno to the reading of biblical texts; Mark Brett advocates methodological pluralism and deconstructs ethnicity in Genesis; and Gerald West explores the 'graininess' of tex 410 4$aThe Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Studies 606 $aSociology, Biblical 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSociology, Biblical. 676 $a220.67 701 $aCarroll R$b M. ARCHAEOLOGICAL, GEOLOGICAL AND GENEALOGICAL INDICATIONS OF ANCIENT CHRONOLOGY. 330 $aThis book presents the basic fundamentals of descriptive archaeoastronomy and its application to the astronomical descriptions found in ancient Indian scriptures. Archaeoastronomy is a branch of positional astronomy that helps to determine the epochs of ancient astronomical alignments and special astronomical events. In this book, only the descriptions of special stellar alignments and events found in ancient texts can identify the antiquity of the descriptions. India possesses a large volume of ancient scriptures like Vedas and Puranas which contain many astronomical descriptions as in ancient India positional astronomy was well developed. The antiquities of these texts are determined through archaeoastronomical techniques. Major events like Mahabharata War are dated and using these dates a chronology of ancient India is determined. The astronomically determined chronology is compared with the results from various archaeological, palaeoclimatological, geological and genealogical investigations of ancient India. This introductory book interests readers interested in unveiling the mystery involved with the protohistory of this ancient civilization. 606 $aAstronomy$xObservations 606 $aScience$xHistory 606 $aChronology 606 $aCosmology 606 $aAstronomy, Observations and Techniques 606 $aHistory of Science 606 $aChronology 606 $aCosmology 615 0$aAstronomy$xObservations. 615 0$aScience$xHistory. 615 0$aChronology. 615 0$aCosmology. 615 14$aAstronomy, Observations and Techniques. 615 24$aHistory of Science. 615 24$aChronology. 615 24$aCosmology. 676 $a520.954 700 $aGhosh$b Amitabha$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$06057 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910412155403321 996 $aDescriptive Archaeoastronomy and Ancient Indian Chronology$91923110 997 $aUNINA
