It begins by exploring the development of two movements ? the evidence-based policymaking and programming movement, and the rise of ratings and rankings research ? and their growth across various disciplines. The analysis suggests that such efforts are useful in gauging the behavior of countries in space according to how well they adhere to existing space law and norms. To date, there is no comprehensive, periodic, and systematic measure of countries? efforts to comply with space law and norms; this work endeavors to fill that gap by offering a framework in which to assess compliance. Applying the framework results in five possible ratings that a country may be assigned, ranging from highly compliant to non-compliant. Ideally, the proposed framework can be used to promote compliance, and with it, space security and sustainability. 410 0$aSouthern Space Studies,$x2523-3718 606 $aLaw of the sea 606 $aInternational law 606 $aSpace sciences 606 $aLaw of the Sea, Air and Outer Space$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19060 606 $aSpace Sciences (including Extraterrestrial Physics, Space Exploration and Astronautics)$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P22030 606 $aAfrican Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911090 607 $aAfrica$xPolitics and government$xPolitics and government 607 $aAfrica$xPolitics and government$xPolitics and government 607 $aAfrica$xPolitics and government 615 0$aLaw of the sea. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aSpace sciences. 615 14$aLaw of the Sea, Air and Outer Space. 615 24$aSpace Sciences (including Extraterrestrial Physics, Space Exploration and Astronautics). 615 24$aAfrican Politics. 676 $a341.47 676 $a341.47 700 $aLindgren$b David$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0900731 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910411951903321 996 $aAn Assessment Framework for Compliance with International Space Law and Norms$92013111 997 $aUNINA
