Born and reared in middle Tennessee, Keeble came under the influence of Preston Taylor, Samuel Womack, and Alexander Campbell, as well as the social influence of Booker T. Washington. In 1914, Keeble committed himself to full-time evangelism and by the 1920's had established himself as a noteworthy preacher. By the time of his death, he reportedly had baptized 40,000 people and had established more than 200 congregations, some of which still flourish today. What are the effects of such norms on the education of children and adolescents? Conveyed via parents/family, school, and peers, they seem to be an inseparable part of human relations. After its favorable reception in German-speaking countries from 2014 onwards, this title is now available in English. The texts show that the traditional assumption of a dualistic, bipolar normativity of sex and gender leads to children being taught gender-typical behavior. The contributions in this volume explore the reasons for these practices and open the debate on the divergence between the prevailing norms and the plurality of different life plans. In addition, the book helps to disengage the topic of sex and gender from a hitherto narrowly circumscribed context of sexual orientation. The contributions point the way towards a culture of respect and mutual acceptance and show new methodological as well as theoretical approaches, e.g. by introducing the figure of the continuum, so that, in future research projects, more than just the two sexes and genders of female and male might be considered as a new normality. 410 0$aGender studies (Bielefeld, Germany) 517 2 $aSchneider/Baltes-Löhr (eds.), Normed Children$eEffects of Gender and Sex Related Normativity on Childhood and Adolescence 606 $aDiversity In Gender 606 $aChildhood 606 $aMedicine 606 $aLaw 606 $aEthics 606 $aEducation Studies 606 $aGender 606 $aEducation 606 $aGender Studies 606 $aEducational Research 606 $aYouth 606 $aSociology of Family 606 $aCultural Studies 615 4$aDiversity In Gender 615 4$aChildhood 615 4$aMedicine 615 4$aLaw 615 4$aEthics 615 4$aEducation Studies 615 4$aGender 615 4$aEducation 615 4$aGender Studies 615 4$aEducational Research 615 4$aYouth 615 4$aSociology of Family 615 4$aCultural Studies 676 $a155.43 702 $aSchneider$b Erik$p
