Such plasmas are ?cold plasmas?, in the sense that only electrons have a high temperature, whereas ions and the neutral gas particles are at or near room temperature. As a consequence, the ?plasma flame? can be directly applied to living matter without appreciable thermal load. Reactive chemical species, charged particles, visible and UV radiation, and electric fields are interaction channels of the plasma with pathogens, cells, and tissues, which can trigger a variety of different responses. Possible applications include disinfection, wound healing, cancer treatment, non-thermal blood coagulation, just to mention some. The understanding of the mechanisms of plasma action on living matter requires a strongly interdisciplinary approach, with competencies ranging from plasma physics and technology to chemistry, to biology and finally to medicine. This book is a collection of work that explores recent advances in this field. 610 $adecontamination 610 $aplasma-treated water 610 $atissue damage 610 $aregeneration 610 $aEscherichia coli 610 $awater treatment 610 $akINPen 610 $abiofilm 610 $adielectric barrier discharge 610 $ametamorphosis 610 $anon-thermal plasma 610 $alymphocytes 610 $alow-current arc 610 $akeratinocytes 610 $aultrastructure 610 $atap water 610 $abio-target 610 $ahead and neck squamous cell carcinoma 610 $ainfection 610 $aoxygen plasma 610 $atadpoles 610 $adentistry 610 $aapoptosis 610 $afear-free dentistry 610 $aplasma-surface interaction 610 $aplasma medicine 610 $amacrophages 610 $aplasma-activated medium 610 $areactive oxygen species 610 $adevelopmental plasticity 610 $areactive species 610 $aatmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) 610 $acold atmospheric plasmas 610 $ajet plasma 610 $acold atmospheric plasma jet 610 $abio-decontamination 610 $aatmospheric pressure plasma 610 $acold argon plasma 610 $aRONS 610 $aplasma device 610 $ablood coagulation 610 $amitochondria 610 $aantimicrobial activity 610 $atooth whitening 610 $acold atmospheric plasma (CAP) 610 $aplasma 610 $ainductively-limited discharge 700 $aMartines$b Emilio$4auth$01323724 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910404076003321 996 $aPlasma Technology for Biomedical Applications$93035775 997 $aUNINA
