Based on a detailed analysis of syntax, information structure and pragmatic organization, this study explores how left-dislocation is used in republican Latin comedy, prose and inscriptions as a device to introduce topics or other pragmatically prominent elements. Taking into consideration especially relative clause syntax and constraints of each text type, Hilla Halla-aho shows that, in the context of early Latin syntax and the evolving standards of the written language, left-dislocation performs similar functions in dramatic dialogue, legal inscriptions and archaic prose. 410 0$aAmsterdam Studies in Classical Philology$v28. 606 $aLatin language$xDiscourse analysis 606 $aLatin language$xGrammar, Generative 606 $aLatin language$xsyntax 610 $aLiterary studies: classical, early & medieval 615 0$aLatin language$xDiscourse analysis. 615 0$aLatin language$xGrammar, Generative. 615 0$aLatin language$xsyntax. 676 $a475 700 $aHalla-aho$b Hilla$0471720 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910404068903321 996 $aLeft-dislocation in Republican Latin$92858331 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01728nam0 22003131i 450 001 UON00133394 005 20231205102805.820 100 $a20020107g18871888 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aMemorie di un missionario domenicano nella Cina$fper frà Tommaso Maria Gentili 210 $aRoma: Tipografia Poliglotta della S.
