Using article 7 as a normative benchmark, it shows that most of the criticism levelled at the Commission's article 9 decisions and the Alrosa judgment of the CJEU is not justified, since critics tend to over-state both the rigour of article 7 and the laxness of article 9. Remaining inconsistencies between the commitment practice and the standards for infringement decisions can, it is submitted, be justified by the consensual nature of commitment decisions and their underlying goal of procedural economy. Moreover, it is suggested that too little importance is generally assigned to the beneficial effect which commitments bring about by providing for precise and enforceable obligations without sacrificing the concerned undertakings? freedom to choose how to put the infringement to an end. Adopting a case-oriented approach, this study provides valuable insights for academics and practitioners alike. 410 0$aMunich Studies on Innovation and Competition,$x2199-7470 ;$v13 606 $aCommercial law 606 $aEuropean Economic Community 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aEuropean Economic Law 606 $aBusiness Law 606 $aEconomic Policy 606 $aEuropean Politics 607 $aEuropean Union countries$2fast 615 0$aCommercial law. 615 0$aEuropean Economic Community. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 14$aEuropean Economic Law. 615 24$aBusiness Law. 615 24$aEconomic Policy. 615 24$aEuropean Politics. 676 $a346.407 700 $aReiter$b Korbinian$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0788537 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910377835303321 996 $aMarket Design Powers of the European Commission$91757842 997 $aUNINA
