These observations have not only become precise enough to answer questions about the universe on the largest scales, but also to address puzzles in the microscopic description of Nature. This thesis investigates new ways of probing the early universe, the properties of neutrinos and the possible existence of other light particles. In particular, based on detailed theoretical insights and novel analyses, new evidence for the cosmic neutrino background is found in the distribution of galaxies and in cosmic microwave background data. This tests the Standard Model of particle physics and the universe back to a time when it was about one second old. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that future observations will be capable of probing physics beyond the Standard Model since they can achieve a particular target which would either allow the detection of any light particles thathave ever been in thermal equilibrium or imply strong bounds on their properties. 410 0$aSpringer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,$x2190-5061 606 $aCosmology 606 $aElementary particles (Physics) 606 $aQuantum field theory 606 $aMathematical physics 606 $aCosmology 606 $aElementary Particles, Quantum Field Theory 606 $aTheoretical, Mathematical and Computational Physics 615 0$aCosmology. 615 0$aElementary particles (Physics). 615 0$aQuantum field theory. 615 0$aMathematical physics. 615 14$aCosmology. 615 24$aElementary Particles, Quantum Field Theory. 615 24$aTheoretical, Mathematical and Computational Physics. 676 $a523.1 700 $aWallisch$b Benjamin$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0836840 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910373934203321 996 $aCosmological Probes of Light Relics$91869957 997 $aUNINA
