The book examines current challenges to academic freedom in Europe, focusing mainly on Italy and Germany. The cases discussed demonstrate that research and teaching are under pressure in European democracies: in Hungary and Poland due to political constraints, in other countries due to societal expectations. Considering different interrelated aspects, the four parts of the book explore many real and potential threats to universities, scientific institutions and researchers, ranging from the European dimension of freedom of the arts and sciences to comparative analysis of emerging challenges to academic freedom against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. They highlight threats to university autonomy from the economic orientation of university governance, which emphasizes efficiency, competition, and external evaluation, and from new rules concerning trigger warnings, speech restrictions, and ethics commissions. Detailed study of these complex threats is intended to stimulate scholarly reflection and elicit serious discussion at European and national level. The volume contributes to the search for a new role of universities and scientific institutions and is addressed to academics and political stakeholders. 606 $aConflict of laws 606 $aConflict of laws 606 $aInternational law 606 $aComparative law 606 $aConstitutional law 606 $aLaw$zEurope 606 $aEducation$xPhilosophy 606 $aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law 606 $aConstitutional Law 606 $aEuropean Law 606 $aEducational Philosophy 615 0$aConflict of laws. 615 0$aConflict of laws. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aComparative law. 615 0$aConstitutional law. 615 0$aLaw 615 0$aEducation$xPhilosophy. 615 14$aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law. 615 24$aConstitutional Law. 615 24$aEuropean Law. 615 24$aEducational Philosophy. 676 $a378.1213 702 $aSeckelmann$b Margrit 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910495191103321 996 $aAcademic freedom under pressure$92870211 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03720oam 2200841 c 450 001 9910372809003321 005 20260302090207.0 010 $a9783839402825 010 $a3839402824 024 7 $a10.14361/9783839402825 035 $a(CKB)3710000000482605 035 $a(OAPEN)1007484 035 $a(DE-B1597)461379 035 $a(OCoLC)1013947232 035 $a(OCoLC)1037981799 035 $a(OCoLC)955228134 035 $a(DE-B1597)9783839402825 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5494140 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5494140 035 $a(OCoLC)1049911836 035 $a(transcript Verlag)9783839402825 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/32827 035 $a(ScCtBLL)df47dbf2-e3ba-40ad-96a1-1d7223d72207 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000482605 100 $a20260302h20152005 uy 0 101 0 $ager 135 $auuuuu---auuuu 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aSex and the Body$eEthnologische Perspektiven zu Sexualität, Körper und Geschlecht$fGabriele Alex, Sabine Klocke-Daffa 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aBielefeld$ctranscript Verlag$d2015 210 $d2015, c2005 215 $a1 online resource (156) 225 0 $aKultur und soziale Praxis 311 08$a9783899422825 311 08$a3899422821 327 $aFrontmatter 1 Inhalt 5 Vorwort 7 Ethnologie der Sexualita?t.
