The author first develops a moral theory of secession based on a hypothetical multinational contract. Under this contract theory, injustices do not determine the existence of a right to secede, but the requirements to exercise it. The book?s second part then argues that international law is more inclined to accept and advance a remedial right approach to secession. Therefore, justice as multinational fairness is to be fully institutionalized under the constitutional law of liberal democracies. The final part proposes constitutionalizing a qualified right to secede with the aim of fostering recognition and accommodation of national pluralism as well as cooperation and compromise between majority and minority nations. Pau Bossacoma Busquets is Lecturer in Public Law at Pompeu Fabra University, Spain, and legal advisor of the Catalan Government. He is a member of the UPF Political Theory Research Group, the Evolution of Institutions Observatory and the Edinburgh Centre for Constitutional Law. He has authored several academic books, chapters and papers on constitutionalism, democracy, citizenship, nationalism, self-determination, sovereignty and territorial autonomy. 410 0$aFederalism and Internal Conflicts,$x2946-5389 606 $aConstitutional law 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aPolitical science?Philosophy 606 $aInternational law 606 $aConstitutional Law 606 $aPolitical Theory 606 $aPolitical Philosophy 606 $aPublic International Law 606 $aPolitical Science 615 0$aConstitutional law. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 0$aPolitical science?Philosophy. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 14$aConstitutional Law. 615 24$aPolitical Theory. 615 24$aPolitical Philosophy. 615 24$aPublic International Law. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 676 $a320.15 676 $a341.26 700 $aBossacoma Busquets$b Pau$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0967126 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910369909303321 996 $aMorality and Legality of Secession$92195544 997 $aUNINA
