The attacks, which involved two planes hitting the twin towers in Lower Manhattan, New York City, resulted in the collapse of the buildings and over 2800 deaths of occupants of the buildings, fire, police and other responders and persons on the street in the vicinity of the collapsing buildings. The destroyed towers and the surrounding buildings have since been replaced but the health effects that resulted from the release of tons of dust, gases and debris as well as the life threat trauma are ongoing, and represent a major health burden among persons directly exposed. Hundreds of scientific publications have documented the physical and mental health effects attributed to the disaster. The current state-of-the-art in understanding the ongoing interactions of physical and mental health, especially PTSD, and the unique mechanisms by which pollutants from the building collapse, have resulted in long term pulmonary dysfunction, course of previously reported conditions, potential emerging conditions (e.g., heart disease and autoimmune diseases), as well as quality of life, functioning and unmet health care needs would be in the purview of this Special Issue on the 9/11 Disaster. 610 $aasthma outcomes 610 $ahealth insurance 610 $amental health 610 $ahandgrip strength 610 $aWTC 610 $acognitive reserve 610 $adisaster epidemiology 610 $asurveillance bias 610 $acardiac sarcoidosis 610 $alung function 610 $alung injury 610 $atreatment utilization 610 $ainjury 610 $aCox regression 610 $alower Manhattan residents 610 $achronic sinusitis 610 $asocial support 610 $aindoor allergens sensitization 610 $arespiratory function 610 $aFDNY 610 $aasthma control 610 $asarcoidosis 610 $aasthma 610 $a9/11 impact 610 $aphysical health 610 $arescue/recovery workers 610 $achronic disease 610 $aevidence-based treatment 610 $airritant(s) 610 $afibrosis 610 $aunmet mental health care needs 610 $aairway hyperreactivity 610 $aasthma quality of life 610 $aShort Form-12 (SF-12) 610 $aWTC-related asthma 610 $alongitudinal analysis 610 $aforced oscillation 610 $athyroid cancer 610 $apsychotherapy 610 $acognitive decline 610 $a9/11 disaster 610 $asevere lung disease 610 $aprevalence 610 $ainflammation 610 $apulmonary function tests 610 $aWorld Trade Center disaster 610 $adisaster mental health 610 $aepidemiological studies 610 $aobstructive sleep apnea 610 $acounseling 610 $asleepiness 610 $aPTSD 610 $ahazard function 610 $acleaning practices 610 $aair pollution 610 $aaging 610 $astressful life events 610 $aairway physiology 610 $ascreening 610 $aPTSD cluster 610 $alatent class analysis 610 $aretirement 610 $aenvironmental health 610 $aWorld Trade Center 610 $aquality improvement 610 $apulmonary fibrosis 610 $aWTC attack 610 $adust 610 $aPCL score 610 $aWTC responders 610 $amini asthma quality of life questionnaire 610 $abiomarkers 610 $aHQoL 610 $ahealth-related quality of life 610 $aScadding stage 610 $a9/11 610 $afirefighters 610 $aallergen exposure 610 $ametabolic syndrome 610 $aneuropathic symptoms 610 $asmall airway disease 610 $aAsian Americans 610 $aasthma morbidity 610 $aPTSD symptom change 610 $aWTC survivors 610 $atrigger(s) 610 $aWorld Trade Center exposure 610 $aoccupational exposure 610 $aperipheral neuropathy 610 $adisaster 610 $arespiratory symptoms 610 $amental health treatment 610 $agenetics 610 $amental health service utilization 610 $acomorbid insomnia 610 $asleep-related quality of life 610 $aWorld Trade Center attack 610 $aimmunoglobulin E 610 $amental health service use 610 $aincome loss 610 $aparesthesia 610 $aWorld Trade Center (WTC) 610 $afibrotic sarcoid 610 $adepression 610 $apost-disaster 610 $amental health conditions 610 $aextrathoracic sarcoidosis 610 $amedical imaging 700 $aBrackbill$b Robert M$4auth$01301453 702 $aGraber$b Judith M$4auth 702 $aRobison$b W.
