While this forced migration stripped slaves of their liberty, it failed to destroy many of their cultural practices, which came with Africans to the New World. In Working the Diaspora, Frederick Knight examines work cultures on both sides of the Atlantic, from West and West Central Africa to British North America and the Caribbean.Knight demonstrates that the knowledge that Africans carried across the Atlantic shaped Anglo-American agricultural development and made particularly important contributions to cotton, indigo, tobacco, and staple food cultivation. The book also compellingly argues that the work experience of slaves shaped their views of the natural world. Broad in scope, clearly written, and at the center of current scholarly debates, Working the Diaspora challenges readers to alter their conceptual frameworks about Africans by looking at them as workers who, through the course of the Atlantic slave trade and plantation labor, shaped the development of the Americas in significant ways. 410 0$aCulture, Labor, History Series 606 $aSlave labor$zAmerica$xHistory 606 $aAgricultural laborers$zAmerica$xHistory 606 $aAfricans$zAmerica$xHistory 606 $aBlack people$zAmerica$xHistory 606 $aAgriculture$zAmerica$xHistory 606 $aAfrican diaspora 610 $aAfricans. 610 $aAmericas. 610 $aAtlantic. 610 $aBroad. 610 $aDiaspora. 610 $aWorking. 610 $aabout. 610 $aalter. 610 $acenter. 610 $achallenges. 610 $aclearly. 610 $aconceptual. 610 $acourse. 610 $acurrent. 610 $adebates. 610 $adevelopment. 610 $aframeworks. 610 $alabor. 610 $alooking. 610 $aplantation. 610 $areaders. 610 $ascholarly. 610 $ascope. 610 $ashaped. 610 $asignificant. 610 $aslave. 610 $atheir. 610 $athem. 610 $athrough. 610 $atrade. 610 $aways. 610 $awho. 610 $aworkers. 610 $awritten. 615 0$aSlave labor$xHistory. 615 0$aAgricultural laborers$xHistory. 615 0$aAfricans$xHistory. 615 0$aBlack people$xHistory. 615 0$aAgriculture$xHistory. 615 0$aAfrican diaspora. 676 $a331.11/7340970903 700 $aKnight$b Frederick C$01479039 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780838503321 996 $aWorking the diaspora$93694921 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04380nam 2201237z- 450 001 9910619468103321 005 20221025 010 $a3-0365-5168-9 035 $a(CKB)5670000000391593 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/93183 035 $a(oapen)doab93183 035 $a(EXLCZ)995670000000391593 100 $a20202210d2022 |y 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aFood Allergies in Modern Life 210 $cMDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute$d2022 215 $a1 online resource (202 p.) 311 08$a3-0365-5167-0 330 $aFood allergy, a specific immune response that occurs reproducibly upon exposure to a food allergen, is an increasing public health problem, causing a significant burden for affected patients, resulting in dietary restrictions, fear of accidental ingestions and related risk of severe reactions, and reduced quality of life. Clinical presentation ranges from mild to life-threatening symptoms. Component-resolved diagnosis with recombinant allergens has improved the diagnosis and, consequently, clinical management. Currently, there is no specific treatment for food allergy, so the only available management is limited to strict dietary avoidance, education on prompt recognition of symptoms, and emergency treatment of adverse reaction. In parallel, novel knowledge on the pathogenesis of food allergy is opening the way to new trials investigating several allergen-specific and allergen non-specific therapies, aiming to prevent the development of food allergy and acquire a persistent food tolerance. 606 $aBiology, life sciences$2bicssc 606 $aFood & society$2bicssc 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 610 $aadolescents 610 $aadults 610 $aalginate 610 $aallergen 610 $aallergen-specific lymphocyte stimulation test 610 $aallergy 610 $aalmond 610 $aalmond allergens 610 $aatopy patch test 610 $abiologics 610 $aCaco-2/Immune cells co-culture 610 $achildren 610 $aclinical score 610 $aCMA 610 $acomponent-resolved diagnostics 610 $aCor a 1 610 $aCor a 14 610 $aCor a 9 610 $acow's milk allergy 610 $across-reaction 610 $acytokine 610 $aendoscopy 610 $aenvironmental factors 610 $aeosinophilic esophagitis 610 $aeosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders 610 $afailure to thrive 610 $afecal biomarkers 610 $aflour 610 $afood allergy 610 $afunctional abdominal pain disorders 610 $afunctional dyspepsia 610 $aGER 610 $aGERD 610 $aGly m 4 610 $agrowth 610 $ahazelnut 610 $ahydrolyzed formula 610 $ahypersensitivity 610 $aIgE 610 $aIgG and IgG4 610 $aindividualized diagnostics 610 $ainfants 610 $airritable bowel syndrome 610 $aISAC 610 $alegumes 610 $alipid transfer protein 610 $alupine 610 $amalnutrition 610 $amonoclonal antibodies 610 $anon-IgE gastrointestinal food allergy 610 $ansLTP 610 $anut 610 $anutrition 610 $aobesity 610 $aoral food challenge 610 $apeach 610 $apeanut 610 $aplant-food allergy 610 $aprimary prevention 610 $aprofilin 610 $aPru p 3 610 $areflux 610 $aRosaceae fruit 610 $asensitization 610 $athickened formula 610 $aundernutrition 610 $avitamin 615 7$aBiology, life sciences 615 7$aFood & society 615 7$aResearch & information: general 700 $aManti$b Sara$4edt$01323095 702 $aMarseglia$b Gian Luigi$4edt 702 $aLeonardi$b Salvatore$4edt 702 $aManti$b Sara$4oth 702 $aMarseglia$b Gian Luigi$4oth 702 $aLeonardi$b Salvatore$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910619468103321 996 $aFood Allergies in Modern Life$93035377 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04438nam 22005175 450 001 9910366581103321 005 20251230065525.0 010 $a3-030-32564-4 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-32564-0 035 $a(CKB)4100000009590018 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5945752 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-32564-0 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000009590018 100 $a20191015d2020 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe 30th SIAR International Congress of Automotive and Transport Engineering $eScience and Management of Automotive and Transportation Engineering /$fedited by Ilie Dumitru, Dinu Covaciu, Lauren?iu Racila, Adrian Rosca 205 $a1st ed. 2020. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2020. 215 $a1 online resource (722 pages) 311 08$a3-030-32563-6 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aThe Calculus of the Pressures in the Characteristic Points of the Engine?s Cycle for a GDI Engine -- An Engine Mechanism Dynamic Analysis by Considering the Kinematic Elements as Deformable Ones -- Experimental Stand to Evaluate Engine Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor -- Theoretical and Experimental Research on the Polluting Emissions for an Middle Class Vehicle Equipped with Engine that Uses the Double Energy Source,Gasoline and LPG -- Analysis of the Injector for Common Rail System, Including of the Electrical Command Signal -- Influence of Tires Parameters on the Braking Process in Automobiles -- Mathematical Model for Stability Analysis of Vehicle-Driver System -- A Study on the Influence of the Miller Cycle upon the Engine?s Internal Aerodynamics -- 3D Aerodynamic Simulation of the Heavy Duty Commercial Vehicle -- Research of Intelligent Control of Injection Systems for Subaru Competition Car -- Some Considerations on Optimal Placement of the Arm Hydraulic Cylinder to an Excavator -- Aspects Regarding Fuel Consumption ad the Pollutant Products of Internal Combustion Engines for Commercial Vehicles -- The Influence of the Hybridization Factor on the Energetic Performance in Test Cycles. . 330 $aThis proceedings book includes papers that cover the latest developments in automotive vehicles and environment, advanced transport systems and road traffic, heavy and special vehicles, new materials, manufacturing technologies and logistics and advanced engineering methods.
