The data was gathered from 2003 to 2007, and the historical part covers the years 1900 to 1970. The objective of the study presented here was to conduct interviews with former frontier and non-frontier nurses in order to better understand their family and personal relationships, and the experiences that motivated their career choices. These interviews also give a voice to the working and middle-class women of the FNS. The emerging themes include moral inhabitability in work/education environments, the generational mix, nurse-physician and male-female relationships at the workplace, the role of technology, humanitarian versus financial rewards, and the public image of nurses. In addition, the book examines how the FNS shifted from a community/grass-roots structure to the corporate/business model of healthcare delivery employed today. In closing, it stresses the importance of explorig past nursing in order to better grasp present nursing. It also represents a testament to the professional work and vital contributions of frontier nurses. 606 $aEscoles d'infermeria$2thub 606 $aHistòria de la infermeria$2thub 606 $aNursing?Study and teaching 606 $aHealth administration 606 $aSocial medicine 606 $aNursing Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H41040 606 $aHealth Administration$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H27030 606 $aMedical Sociology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22150 608 $aLlibres electrònics$2thub 615 7$aEscoles d'infermeria 615 7$aHistòria de la infermeria 615 0$aNursing?Study and teaching. 615 0$aHealth administration. 615 0$aSocial medicine. 615 14$aNursing Education. 615 24$aHealth Administration. 615 24$aMedical Sociology. 676 $a610.73 700 $aWest$b Edie$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0782217 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910357830003321 996 $aFrontier Nursing in Appalachia$91734920 997 $aUNINA
